Getting the ass sound out of POD tracks

Your POD has to be better than my V-amp.

I don't have any peddles, so I am going to attempt to hook it up to my 18 watt plexi clone.

But can you get a POD tone out of a voodoo modded 5150? That's what I want to know, otherwise I'm gonna have to trade mine in!

I fucking hate PODs, some guys love em... I think they sound like shite. It's an age old debate, impossible to win - tone is in the ear of the beholder after all.... if you are talented and can afford to dick around with the unit for a long time, yes you can get a pretty good sound out of them. I just havent the time for that, with a wife and kids I need something that sounds good as soon as I turn it on, that's why I ditched my PODxt and invested in a Prophesy II - more expensive, about 10% of the features but about 1000% higher quality all around. If you are working on a budget, PODxt is a great buy at that level, if not then shop around and you can do a lot better... for a lot more...

Probably not. My mesa was just modded by voodoo. I love it. Taking it back up soon to get the new output transformer.

I have a few POD tracks stashed away. If you guys figure this out, pm me so I can take the ass out.

I'd try to cut from about 20hz to 20khz about 90dB. That should get rid of most of the objectionable noises.

Hahaha that actually made me laugh :p

But what about the transients?!

My bass POD sounds pretty good. Is the guitar POD really that bad.

no, it's not. i'll admit, it can be a pain to get good sounds out of it, but you just have to know how to use it. i just edit the sounds on my PC, much faster and easier that way.

i'm fully expecting to get flamed, i don't really care. i like the tone i get from my POD/Atomic amp, so flame away.

If it sounds good to you then who cares? There are worse things in the world than some dude direct recording with his guitar.

I think my V-Amp is way better than my POD. And for bass I use a J-Station but bass is a very different matter.
I've heard ................ well, now that I think about it I've never heard one sound good live. Seems to me that I've heard some tracks that were ok but I couldn't swear to it.

For most people that usually trash Amp Modellers, using one would be an immediate improvement over the guitar tone they have.

ZING! :p

I think you're right to a certain extent, but there is alot more to it than that. An amplifier has so many qualities to the sound that a modeler can't touch.
Alot of people may not be able to capture those qualities the way they really deserve (I may be one of them - but I'm getting better), but that doesn't provide a difinitive answer to the debate.
It does take ALOT more gear, ALOT more money, and ALOT more experience to get golden tracks with an amp and a mic - but it's worth it for so many reasons. Surely you wouldn't argue with that. Alot of people would tell you that any amp and any recording chain is better than a POD and I wouldn't say that at all. In that case I'd agree with you 100%.
But for anyone who's ever captured a tone from their amp that really did it justice - a modeler will eternally sound like cock and balls to them. I'm not a master of capturing perfect tone, but I've gotten close enough in my own tastes to put me firmly in that camp.

Play it through a nice tube amp. I have a buddy that does this with good results. Or is recording direct your only option?
