Getting that Pro sound

I have been recording a few years now. I am currently recording with a AKAI digital 12 track. Once I get through recording, I mix it and send it on its way to the computer where I do a little more mixing with Sound Forge 6. I use a Delta 4x4 break out box to get the signal from my 12 track to the computer. (ok, given that) Anybody out there have any ideas how to give a home recording that pro "cd" quality sound level? It just seems like my recording lack in sound quality once I get them onto CD. They always seem to sound great when listening to them from the 12 track. But when compairing my recording to a recording from a band, it just lacks serious sound levels. HELP!

That "PRO QUALITY SOUND" comes from paying attention to, and getting every step right in the process from sound source tracking right thru to mixing....

Brush up on the recording techinques and be critical of the sounds during tracking and you'll be more than halfway there!

I can recommend a GREAT book! It is called "The Mixing Engineer's Handbook" By Bobby Owsinski. It has so many great tips, plus interviews with Top-Pros. I have read it twice in a week (because it is THAT nice a read) and am planning on reading more as I start mixing. Take care!
