Getting that "polished sound" mixing question?

off topic?

I was wondering if it's too late to ask how can you tell if the song is wrongly mixed (or eqed, or whatever,me=poor ignorant) when all i've been able to appreciate was that awful ringing of extreme mp3 compressing. I'd like to note I've been hearing it with headphones at a not very lod level

hmm? polished

gtrman_66...thanks for the explanation on EQ. I would have never thought
from that aspect.

Ok...disagree if you want. :)
Monkey and Neve...ok, c'mon thats extreme.

that's like GMassenburg with a WaltDisney cassettedeck & built in-microphone?

I agree with some of it.

but go listen to the Anthology CD's...then side by side to the Abbey Road Studios version.
Maybe its just my presenatation of the idea....Equipment is a HUGE Factor
for that Polished Sound.

The simple fact is, the most experienced engineers work in the best rooms with the best gear. Segovia didn't buy his guitars at KMart, and Bach didn't write jingles for your local AM station.

We're not there yet.

polished sausage

powerful combination...Talent & Equipment.

Talent and Equipment..Peanut butter and Jelly sandwich.

POLISHED SOUND....idea

Dizzi..take one of your tunes and send it in to someone here to Master it.
it's a great gang here, if it's too ruff they might just send it back and you'll
save your money...in a helpful way, maybe even offer some tips?

That isn't far from an accurate description of one of the "premiere" local studios here. I think they actually have a Trident Series 90 rather than a Neve, but they have a couple of A-80's, great large rooms, mic locker and all the trimmings. With the "engineers" they keep on staff, I have never heard such a case of CRS (can't record shit) syndrome in my life.

I have turned out stuff with my little 24x8 Yamaha, a couple of adats, modest mic collection and Windows DAW that shreds their ass. When I first read "monkey with a Neve", my mind went straight to those guys.

monkeying around

Its a fhkng hilarious visual! Neve and a Monkey...hehehee

I went to GC and wanted to hear all their monitors...
so immediately it was realized all the speakers were cross wired and sht...

the poor guys took 30minutes just to get it kinda correct, then the labeled switches were all wrong.
and they couldn't get the digital mixer to work and the DAT unit...
and in the end the V4's still only had one speaker going!

i thought?? am I the first person ever to ask to hear their monitors?

sorry off the polished subject...
