Does anyone know how Trent produces his drum mixes? What equipment would you think he uses? Mostly his most recent stuff. It sounds like he samples a lot of his drum sounds. I take it he processes a lot of them.
Any articles anyone knows about?

i just read an article from keyboard mag i think that talked about how he recorded fragile and it seems that he samples ALOT of his sounds one cool thing he did was go down to the local pub and get abunch of drunks together to record some of the wierd chorus stuff he has thrown into some songs </offtopic>
maybe just get a drum machine and sample the hits and process the f*ck out of them but make sure they still sound like they belong together (or maybe thats just personal prefference?) want to talk about some wierd drums and sampled music, pick up autechre's first album - pure genius

Trent is a recording master, no doubt. I love The Fragile but I find his drumming sound better in earlier cd's. The Downward Sprial is much more impressive on drums. I believe he does record more live drumming in The Fragile than in the past and processes it from there. If you look at his studio pictures you would then find that he has ever electronic piece of equipment known to man and I think he uses every single one of them. I do know that one of his quotes is "F##K it up the best I can" when he is processing something. So, what to do? Get at least two effects processors. Record you drums dry. Play the recorded drums into your effects as a new track. Do this over and over and over until you ruin the sound. Then try to blend the tracks to match the song. I do this on guitar and should do it on drums :)

Nin Drums

I can get the EXACT SAME drums sounds from "With Teeth - You know what you are " using a Boss DR-670 and a MXR Bass DI pedal with the distortion cranked. I'm a bass Player and i was just messing around with the effects on the drum machine and I came across that sound.

There is four article with NIN's ex-drummer explaining how he recorded the sound for their sophomore record in modern drummer. Theyre from march to june I think.
