getting started

I have literally hundreds of cassettes that I would like to transfer to CD. How do I get started? I already have a computer: 733 Mhz, with lots of memory. It has a 64 and a 128 in it. I also have a CD burner, 12 speed. What else do I need, as in cables, software, etc. Any answers are much appreciated.

sounds like you have what it takes...

all you need is to connect the audio out of your stereo to the Line-in of your soundcard and you're in business.

You can use your soundcard software recorder to record them into .wav format or any freeware you can find in the web.

Personally I am using Steiberg Clean! cos you can get rid of the tape hiss and enhance the sound of your recording.

now all you need is hundred of hours to do the recording!

Connect your cassette deck to the computer,

using a 1/8" stereo-to-RCA Y-cable adapter, connected from your cassette's stereo outs, to the sound card LINE IN.

Record using Windows Sound recorder, and/or with many and varied recording programs. Check out www.willowpond.com for a stereo-only recording software, [and everything else that's out there, that I can't name]. There's great recording software I use, called MAGIX MUSIC STUDIO, which is full DAW-multitrack software. Magix Music Studio makes a darn good recording, has good level peak meters, and is not expensive either. Find this, and other recording software titles at software/electronic stores like BEST BUY or FRYs. You'll find your best deals, there. Bestbuy.com is good, too.
