hi i would to ask a question that was proably asked alot of times but i havent found my awnser yet, maybe someone could help me out.

i have my computer (which is quite good), a band, and 800$ to spend. i would like to record demos and stuff like that, so i dont mind having an ok quality. we have bass, guitar, drums and 2 vocals.

so what should i buy and what should i do?

thanks in advance

a soundcard, microphones, software and monitors. search the forums. you'll find plenty of information on them all.

As far as a recording software I'm a Cakewalk Home Studio 2004 user. My music style is progressive rock / heavy metal. My recordings include the use of guitar, bass, drums, keys (and keyboard sounds).
I record using live instruments as well as dxi software and drum modules... (external midi devices). I'm not sure as to how you would go about recording a full drum kit except to mic the kit to a mixer and then to the computer ( I have no need for that). I feel that if you are wanting to record using software this program would be well suited for...... about 80 in a music store..... you can go to Cakewalk.com and get more info. The other thing is , as noted before soundcard choice is important...... m-audio.com audiophile2496 for example....... i currently use a creative lab sound audigy card, but will soon be upgrading......... but check the forums...... ask around...I've tried Ntrac and Cubase as well and i like HS 2004.
Good Luck :D

You should find some one in your town with thier own studio and hook up with them and have them record your band. I know this advice does not fit with the home recording theme of this web site (it could be some one elses home). But really If you are really trying to get a decent recording with your band do not try to do everything your self. 800 bucks could go a long way with a small studio and it will not go very far in putting together a home studio that can do a decent recording of a band.

with 800 bucks to spend i would ......
get some cheap cad mics or audio technica if i could plus a cheap sound card. if you need 4 ins loojk at maya mk2. its new.
then put powertracks multitrack software on youir pc or the free
kristal. then do a lot of recording as you hone youir needs ansd next steps to upgrade.
