guys what you think about this ?
AsusTek
ASUS P4S533 Sis 645DX 3 DDR DIMM, 6 PCI, 1 AGP 4X, Ultra DMA/133, Audio,LAN, Retail with cpu - Intel Pentium 4 2.0GHz, Socket 478, 256K Cache, Fan, Tested , $406.75

what is better ? DDR DIMM memory or SDRAM ..i am not asking about RAMBUS cause that one i know sucks..

That would probably work fine. Personally I prefer motherboard that have no additional packaged componants, especially no audio on the motherboard. There is always a concern that it could a conflict, even if it is disabled. But motherboards without these extras are getting harder to find.

DDR Ram is somewhat faster than SDRAM. All newer motherboards are moving away from SDRAM. What kind of RAM you buy is dictated by the motherboard, because the types are not interchangable - you have to buy whatever the motherboard uses.

Some mobo's allow you to use SDR or DDR. The benchmarks I have seen dont show that much gain with DDR but the price has dropped so much it isnt that big of a deal anymore. Even Rambus is affordable now.

Well that is true, I forgot to mention that. Some boards - like the wretched ECS mobo I posted on awhile back - do have slots for both. So if you already have SDRAM lying arround (which I did) they are a better deal. But these are rare, and I just wanted to make sure you understand that you can't just shove any RAM into any socket. Not unless you want to fry everything...

This is my recommendation based on months (no joke) of research. But as always, when it comes to computers... (and.. well.. almost anything else) to each his own.

CPU: AMD Athlon XP1900+ or 2000+ (you can get these for chump change right now.

Mobo: Soyo Dragon Plus (DDR266)

HDD: Maxtor D740X 40GB 7200RPM

Although... the DDR333 boards are becoming more abundant. But... the performance increase of DDR333 over DDR266 isn't exactly huge... but if you're after the latest and the greatest, you can check those out.

WATYF

I agree

Greetings,

I agree with WATYF, high end athlon XP, soyo dragon plus (or the new ultra with DDR 333 support) and a fast 7200 rpm drive.

soooo faaassstttt
