;)

sorry im new, this is probably a retarded question but how do professionals get easily 24+ lines into their computer... or do they even use a computer?

well, you have three options -

1. use a regular sound card and overdub each part
2. get a sound card that supports multiple inputs and outputs, such as MOTU cards or M-Audio's lineup.
3. use a multi-track recorder and dump the tracks to PC.

If you're going to do live multi-track recording, choice two would probably be your best bet (providing you don't have a multi-track recorder already). For 8 tracks, I would recommend the card that I have sitting on my desk right now, the M-audio Delta 1010. You can find it new almost anywhere for $600.

...and to answer your second question, they can either use a 24track hard disk drive recorder and easily transfer the tracks, or you can use three delta1010's at once :)

...and it wasn't a stupid question.
