Hey guys I'm looking for some help. Ill try and keep it brief. I am somewhat familiar with a few computer recording programs. Acid and cubase etc.Well I picked up a digi 001 for a steal with Pro tools LE 5.0 I know this was originally for windows 98.

Well my computer took a crap on me and I am buying a refurbished computer with a XP operating system. 3 gigs of ram...
(A powerhouse compared to my old computer... LOL ) but the guy said he would install my digi 001 sound card and all that for me. I just want to make sure I know exactly what I need to do before I go spending money on my little demo studio

My question is can I run this on the xp or do I need to upgrade this version of protools to 6.4 to run with the XP?

I am a few years behind on the tech tip so any help would be greatly appreciated. My main thing was just getting audio into the computer and for the price of the digi 001 it seemed to be like a good deal.

Don't make me pull out the tascam 4 track guys... lol

Hi there,
I found this in the digi archives.

It seems Pro Tools LE 6.4 is the last to support the digi 001 so you can't go any newer than that without a hardware upgrade.

I suppose the best thing to do would be to install PT 5.0.1 on a friends XP computer just to see what happens.
Just because AVID don't officially support something doesn't mean it wont work.
If it's a no go, 6.4 is a good safe bet.

The info page for 5.3.1 also mentions XP and 001.
According to the sheet, 5.3.1 is not a free upgrade, but I don't know where you'd buy it from now-adays.
I very much doubt avid still sell it.
Maybe ebay? TBH, if you ask around you might find someone who'd just give you their old license code.

Thanks for replying. I have been looking over the stuff. Sometimes I find broken links and stuff. I just want to make sure I am doing everything right.

How does the upgrade work? Do I DL everything I need or does avid send me a physical disc? I have read the upgrade is $35. I Alsoo need service pack 2?

The links I put in my other post have download links that require you to enter your code for that version.
I went ahead and tried to download 5.1 but the download wasn't available anymore so I guess they're not providing or supporting these old versions anymore.
(Turns out I have codes for 5.1 through to 8)

I would
1: Try the version you have on an XP computer. You can set it to run in win98 compatibility mode.
2: Shop 2nd hand for a CD+code for the proper versions for xp+ digi001
3: Call avid.
