I just got a Tascam Porta 2 MKll. In the instruction manual it said that if you record more than 2 tracks, tracks 3 and 4 cannot be heard when you play it back on a cassette tape. Is there anyway for me to get a regular cassette tape player to play all four tracks? Or is this done when you're done doing the master tape. Thanks a lot.

The Tascam 4 track recorder only uses one side of the tape when you are recording onto all four tracks. For you to be able to play the tapes on a regular cassette player, you must record your tracks onto a regular cassette recorder from your Tascam 4 track using the main output jacks (R&L). If you don't have a studio quality casette recorder, almost any stereo cassette recorder will give you a playable tape.
I recently purchased an RCA consumer quality cd burner which will accept analog, digital and optic imputs and that is what I am using.($199.00 at Radio Shack)
I got a display model for considerably less (I'm Scottish :))

one of my fav. SNL skits.

Yep you'll have to send it to another recorder as a single stereo recording.

When I had a tascam 4 track (I think I was 14), I remember being so dissappointed that I needed a tape recorder to make mastered copies. I never bought one though, I just "permanently borrowed" one from the singer in my band. ;)

hehe...I "borrowed" the family one from the stereo cabinet. I don't think anyone missed it though. I got my first 4-track when I was 13 back in 1990 (Yamaha MT100 :) )
