Getting a sound...

I am actually wanting to get an old vintage sound....the style of music my band plays is 70's and 80's rock so i am kinda wanting to capture that sound. Is there a simple way to just like mic the drums and EQ them....or should I still use a compresser and all that good stuff?

Well, what kind of kit, heads, tuning, etc are you using? The best way to do what you want is to get your drums sounding like a 70's or 80's kit and then mic it.

There is a big difference (in my opinion) in sound between 70's and 80's rock. To do 70's you would want fewer mics mostly relying on room mics for your sound. For 80's you'd be looking at a close mic/heavily gated sound.

Get the sound first. A half-way decent mic will capture it.

mono drums, reverb to suit. That's my opinion...never done it though
