Bring Back Transfat!
Using PII450/128 megs/8.4 5400rpm/SB Live Vaue and want to start multi-traking. Looking at Cakewalk/Peavy's StudioMix vs Roland 880EX. Will be doing all guitar, drums and vocals myself and need to be able to lay tracks in sync while monitoring previous tracks. Will the non-SCSI drive be sufficiant and will the StudioMix do what I need? Roland unit looks cool, but I'm wondering if it's a nessecity at almost twice the price? Whatdoyathink?

Your computer is more than adequate but the sound card...let's put it this way...would you spend dozens of hours recording and mixing a Squier guitar and $150 drum set? So why waste your time with a cheap sound card? Other than that, you can do everything you want (plus burn CDs with the appropriate hardware) on your computer with that Cakewalk/Peavey thing, no problem. You might want an audio editing program but that's about all.

Read the rest of the site, especially the digital stuff at https://homerecording.com/digital.html and under that...and keep listening on this BBS!
