Never Act Like U Know All
Hey guys and gals. I'm not sure if this post really belngs here in the Cubase forum but, I just wanted to get y'alls opinions on a couple of things. Were about to buy an Antares ATR-1.

1. What do you think about the ATR-1?
2. What do you think about a multiple monitor display setup?
3. What do you think about Gigasampler/Gigastudio?

We are in a 2 bedroom apt which makes it dificult to seem professional, but do y'all know how turn a closet into a vocal booth (laugh)....is it possible? the closet is 4 foot X 6 foot. It seems to be of right size, but what do we need to do to the walls in there? There is carpet on the floor in there if that helps.

I want to share with yall the deal of a lifetime that my wife found. She went to this once a month computer sale here in Dallas. She found two 20" macintosh monitors that work on a PC with a little adapter. I told her that I wanted to run a multiple monitor setup so I can run Cubase VST and SounDiver at the same time without flip-flopping. She bought both for $215.00. Awesome!!! You cant buy 1 brand new for under $500.00 that I've ever seen. Tip: Mac monitors are usually cheaper.

Check out the Pic that I attached of our studio I'll pick up another of those monitors just for Gigasampler/studio. What do you guys think? Give us your honest opinions. Also, Im Thinking about an electronic drumset...such as the Roland TD-7. What do yall think of that set?

Fisher Dual Cassete Deck
Sony Stereo Mic
Tascam TM-D1000 16 Channel Dig Mixer (vocals mostly)
Mackie 1202 (For Modules and Keyboards)
Event 20/20 Nearfield Monitors
Haffler 75W/Channel Amp
Unitor8 MIDI patch bay
DBX 166XL stereo compressor/limitor/gate
Mackie 1202 (For Modules and Keyboards)

Roland JW-50 as a Master Controller
Roland JV-1080 (W/Dance card & Techno EXP, & 2100 Patches)
Roland JD-990 (700 Patches via the Internet)
Korg Triton Rack
Yamaha TG-77 (400 Patches via the Internet)
Yamaha FB-01 (Awesome bass module)

Do yall think of anything else a professional studio should have?

Thanks in advance guys?

I know you have the Mackies that you also use for mic pre's but you can do better with a dedicated high quality mic pre a a decent large diaphram condesor mic.

ok,

first of all, the ATR-1 (and excuse and spelling mistakes, ive just been out on the town, a little drunk)...

the ATR-1 is excellent. i have 3 of them, for 3 differnet studios. i think that will tell you how i rate it. it's handy just to keep during mixdown. if you're mixing late and night, and the singer has sung this bum note which you haven't really paid any attention to, just run it through auto tune , and it's sorted. i dont like using it, cus i prefer to record a perfect take. but sometimes, the expression is there, but not the pitch, that's when you need it. to be honest with you, unless you're running a serious studio facility, it's wasted money. you can easily re-record the vocal until the pitch is reached, aslong as you use your ears. in the commercial pro world, we need an absolutely spotless vocal which shouldn't be slightly flat in any places. that's where it can come in handy. it sometimes sounds strange but great on guitar solos...

umm, vocal booth closet? hmm, put loads of foam in it and make it as quiet as you can. carpet is good, you're not gonna get much foot noises on the floor. bit of a dodgy place to rcord vocals though!
