Okay, just been looking through these sites and loads of usfull info here. I'm new to recording music, basically i have cool edit ver 2 on my computer just to record guitar parts for my band nothing major.

But my friend has asked me to help them record a cheap demo as in they ain't got any money, now they have fairly good amps and equipment and loads of good mics would it be good to record it straight onto cool edit? or should i use another program and import each segment, like is there any good programs of software good for recording drums on there own and vocals on there own etc?

And also want to make the sound really nice like nothing amazing professional as we're doing it in his house and he has a mutli track recorder, but any tips for like EQ settings anf the filters to get sounds more sharp and less background noise at all?

Well thanks

CEP v2 is excellent for multitracking which means that you are recording more than one track. It has an edit view for cutting, trimming etc. the individual tracks. Then it has a dedicated multitrack view which lets you record up to 128 tracks.

So what you would do is record all the instruments in multitrack view. Adjust the volume levels, panning and any effects. Then once you're happy with the mix and everything sounds balanced you mix-down all the individual tracks into a single stereo file.

Then you enter the phase which is called mastering where you can either send it to a pro mastering studio or you can attempt to do it yourself. Mastering basically involves boosting the overall level of the entire mix-down, trimming the start and ends to appropriate positions.

Then you can save it and burn it on a CD or make it an mp3 and put it on the internet.
