Hello, I have a slight problem. I have the DP-02 which as you probably know only has 2 inputs, for quarter inches and xlr's. However I'm looking to record some drums sometime soon, so I need about 5 xlr inputs. Is there anything I can buy to add more inputs to the DP-02? Some sort of extension device or something? I could have sworn I saw someone we recorded with once have something like such, connected to his multitrack, but I just called Guitar Center and they said there is no such thing...any ideas?
Thank you!

Well, I don't know, but a mixer might help...

I have a 32 channel mixer that I was using with my DP02 (I now have a 2488), you just loop the 2 stereo outs of the mixer to the 2 stereo in's on the DP02 and you're set. You can buy a nice Behringer with on board effects and 8 channels for about 100 bucks. I can't understand why no one at GC would've mentioned that.

I should add...

the mixer has 8 channels...that's 8 in's for mic's, line inputs, whatever (the Behringer(Xenyx series) also has both balanced and unbalanced inputs). If 8 in's aren't enough, go with a 12 channel mixer.

Wow that sounds perfect, I don't know why they wouldn't mention it either...
You mean something like this?

Sorry for the naive questions, but I'm unfamiliar with all of this. So basically would that have 2 outs that I'd connect to the DP-02 (both) then just mic the drums to this?
And it looks like they all have their own volume controls and whatnot...
If I understand right, this sounds just perfect.

Exactly like that!

Just plug your mic's (balance or unbalanced...some of these little mixers also have phantom power for condenser mic's...if you use them) to the channel inputs on the mixer. The mixer out's go to the two DP02 inputs (A and B if I remember correctly) and you are good to go.

Excellent, thank you so much!
One final question. The drummer likes to hear the guitarist play along with him, just to follow. However the guitar won't be recorded at the same time, he just needs to hear it. Would I be able to run the guitar through headphones through this mixer without it actually being recorded while laying the drum tracks down?
Thanks again! :)

Unfortunately, I don't think so...

on a mixer of this size, you can't do sub buses and sub outs (but maybe someone else can give you some direction). Anything going from the mixer to the DP02 will be recorded (unless it's muted, in which case, your drummer wouldn't hear the guitar anyway).

Hm, so in this case, can I plug the mixer into only one of the two inputs on the DP-02, and use channel B for the guitar for him? Or does the mixer need to be plugged into both inputs?

Well...

You could Y-out the mixer into to channel B (but it would be a mono signal), and plug the guitar into Channel A (I believe Channel A is for low level signals primarily when going mono), but I'm thinking the recorder would still record the guitar. You could use a separate mixer for the guitar, monitor out to the drummer (use headphones). This way he can play with the guitar and while not recording the guitar.

Ok, I'll probably end up doing that. Sounds perfect. Thank you so much for your help! :)
