Hello there. I have been going at this now for a couple years now, with what I consider pretty mixed results. Technique wise, I am pretty much in the dark, only having picked up a few tips from friends here and there.

I think I have the recording part down pretty well, but my mixing leaves much to be desired. Any advice would be much appreciated, and if anyone out there could point me at some helpful books on the subject, that too would be very helpful. There seem to be many books out there, but most are surprisingly pricey, and many seem to offer pretty dubious, or very obvious advice.

I think my favorite "review" I got from a friend of mine actually knows what he's doing went something like this: " Hey, that's got a mid-range hole in it big enough to drive a bus through!" If anyone has a moment, and cares to give a listen, here is a link to some of my stuff: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ony/128343966123?v=app_2405167945&ref=s

Thanks for taking a look,

g

Sounds like you're just getting started...the best advice I suppose is to just use the vast, vast internet as your book for now...there's more information on the net than you can poke a stick at...use this forum's search...read as much as you can...learn some of the lingo...learn about the basic effects...learn about mixing, eq, compression, reverb, bussing, daws, mic placement, panning, chorus, drum mixing, send levels, gain staging, limiting, what is peak level...what is rms? Get into it on the net...there's shit loads to learn and it's free. Plus...keep hands on as you go...try shit out...do this...do that.

Anyway, your song sounds better than anything I've ever done and it's definitely louder than anything I've ever done...so...you know...don't take my word for it

Thanks for the feedback Monkey. I have to admit, I have been poking around here for coupe days now, and have begun remixing most of my stuff. At this point, I am pretty sure I am a sufferer of creeping volume syndrome, which I am positive have created some clipping issues in most of my mix downs. On the up side though, my actual recordings seem to be pretty solid for the most part, and I rarely print my effects, so I have plenty to work with I guess. Thanks again...

Greg
