Genelec problems...

I just bought a pair of used Genelec 1030A monitors. They are consecutive serial numbers, and one of them seems a little "duller" than the other. All of the dip switches are set at factory default. I've tried positioning them myriad ways thinking it might be a reflection problem, but the monitors they are replacing (Tannoy Reveal Actives) had no such problem.

My question is: I know replacing the woofer and/or tweeter doesn't involve much more than unscrewing them and disconnecting the spade connectors, no soldering involved. It will cost me less than $200 to get a replacement woofer and tweeter from Genelec.

Do you think it pays to swap 'em out, or might the "dullness" be related to something else. I'm just trying to avoid packing, shipping, and waiting.

could be your hearing. A lot of people get wax buildup that they dont know about. Go to a doctor, and have them check into it. I had a ball of wax the size of a penny in my ear.

Did you switch inputs and such to make sure it was actually the speaker?

Did you set the dip switches on the back to the same settings?

yes and yes...and no I haven't been to an ENT to check for wax buildup, but that's a good call.

I am beginning to suspect this is a case of constantly fiddling around with placement until I get the right balance. The room is untreated, and though the Tannoys didn't seem to have this problem, the Gennys are obviously VERY susceptible to frequency dropouts due to reflections. I did initially swap the monitors, and at first I believed the problem travelled with the "dull' speaker. Now, I realize I didn't place them EXACTLY the same way I had them placed, because on second try the problem DIDN'T travel with the "dull" speaker.

thanks for all the responses.
