Hi Luc

I do not know how to insert soundcloud player here. I've just posted it.

soundcloud.com/luculescu-alin-gabriel/liza-colby-band-oh-baby-luc

Nice gentle mix, Luc
really well done
totally different vision from mine
I imagined to be on stage with my head in the middle of the drum stuff and with my eyes stamped on the strings of guitars to steel licks and tricks
Your vision is more polite
I know you as a winner, so utmost respect, but, if I can to say, try a buss compressor on master with very slow attach and very short release to tight it a little more

Also having issue posting it, my apologies.

Gearfest 2012 entry

Hi everyone,

here's my Mix.
//soundcloud.com/perer/perermix_gearfest2012puremixco
(I'ms sorry but as a new member I'm not allowed to post the direct soundcloud player into this post)

MIX done completely ITB
DAW is Cubase under Windows.
Most of the plugins used are from UAD2, but also Sonnox EQ (almost in every single track), PluginAlliance, SlateDigital, some of Waves and Fabfilter...

Here's a link to download the screenshot of both Cubase's Mixer and Arrangement.

Artistic intentions:
getting an hybrid sound of the rock of the 70s but blended with modern production vibe (elements getting more in your face than vintage songs). The goal was a fat Drum sound blended with rock guitar, upper bass lines and in your face vocals. An acoustic environment has been added to recreate the hall of the recording place + some delay lines to blend each mix element as a pseudo-live performance.

I'm sorry about the mastering process but I'm used to work this way, getting a mix+master at once. This is my way of working from the beginning of a mix process. I agree on to be normalized to equal RMS level as other competitors.

Nice song and impressive musicians !!

Thank You Dave. Your mix is very good also. On your mix the guitar is right panned till 0.26, then it goes back to center, is this how it's suppose to be ?. My mixbuss is empty, trust me that may hands are itching to insert something in there but Fab says that they will normalize the levels and I want the best possible dynamics I can provide in this respect.

I've tried to make it a bit oldskool

My entry

What the heck... here's my mix: soundcloud.com/steve-cocchi/stevec

Mixed in SONAR X2 using all included plugins, except for the occasional vocal harmonies generated with Melodyne in Studio One 2.5

My goal was to do something not too clean, but still retaining clarity, and without being mono or with everything overly wide. Oh, and the slightly distorted vocals in spots are completely intentional. :D

I just resubmitted with detail adjustments. Feel free to comment. Thank You.

Hi all, new here. Found out about this place from the gearfest mix competition.
I'm certainly not expecting to win anything, (i've heard some great mixes on here) but some feedback from you guys would be great.
I'll deffo be sticking around here and hope to learn a lot.
Cheers

Uploaded take2

a few adjustments...

All Comments are Welcome & Appreciated

How can you guys expect feedback on your mix if you don't leave any for others'? :spank:

All I can say is that the vocals are giving me a hell of a time. They are clipping out and I find it extremely difficult to clean up. There's no real way to make that kind of clipping sound good. To me anyway. It sounds to me like she's flattening that mic element. I understand that it was not the most ideal recording situation but I just feel like I could never be satisfied with the vox. I've listened to a lot of mixes and it seems to me that many of you are having the same issue, if you're hearing it or not. I'll just have to settle with the mix I have. I doubt I'll even get a passing listen at this point.

Really? Vocals didn't clip for me. I attenuate tracks when I mix most times. I thought the vocals were the best thing recorded on these tracks.

The vocals ARE clipping. In the loud parts they compress quite a bit. Even keeping the vox well under -20dB they are still clipped. It's nothing I or anyone else is doing, it's the proximity to the mic.

Edit: Actually, I just now had a listen to your mix and the vox are definitely clipping in yours as well.

I do agree with hue, the vocal track is HORRIBLE, lots of resonances and it does clip yes (analog clipping since it does not go over 0dBFS). If you can't hear that, just play the raw vocal track or the song unmixed on your cellphone's or laptop's speakers at a high volume. You'll get your ears blown.
There's not much to do about it I guess, and it is 100% sure that Fab didn't address this problem in his 1 hour mix.

I got that, I can hear it over driving the mic. But It wasn't clipping in the since that it was to distorted to deal with is my thought. I've been handed worse for sure. The resonance was a pain. I had the same sort of trouble with the tone of the gtr.
