Hey, relatively new to the forum, just curious as to what you drumjockeys wail away on :D

My kit is too crappy to mention lol, ok I will, CB Maxx kit...ahhh the goodness of crap. You know I recorded a demo with this kit and it actually sounded pretty good considering it's a $300 kit. I can't justify the purchase of a new kit right now as I'm more into guitar and songwriting at the moment. Maybe when I get my recording gear set up...

So what are you guys playing?

Don't worry

I play on a kit that is known as a piece of crap. It's made by Rhythm Art. It sucks right now. Notice I said "right now". I'm telling you man, if you put some good heads on it and tune it PROPERLY, it won't be bad at all. Don't go a step further until you read the Drum Tuning Bible (www.drumweb.com/profsound.shtml). It's great. It'll tell you how to tune your kit awesome and it gives you an idea of what heads are going to suit your style.

Hello all, new here myself, I play on a set of Tama swingstars, 9 piece set
with 5 sabian B8 pro cymbals and a set of B8 pro hi hats, and a Pulse pro double bass pedal, not the best gear in the world but with my tuning it rocks.
And the cheap 100 dollar pulse pedal is a good deal for the money, it's tough and fast enough for now, although I think I could go faster, with a better pedal.

I play on some pieces of crap made by myself.....
they are keller maple shells.....

SWEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeT

Pearl Export. Have it set up as a 4 piece kit though. Awesome kit, well worth the money.

i've got a late 80's pearl export kit that started out as a 5 piece that i've since expanded to 8.

i've also got a 5 piece mid-60's ludwig kit that i usually play as a 4-piece.

between the two of em, i can easily run the gamut of drum sounds. combination of Zildjian A's and K's for hats, crashes, rides and splashes, Wuhans for chinas.

keep in mind, though, that your head selection and tuning are usually more important than the drums themselves. usually. but not always. :D

if you're not getting good results when recording your kit, get it up off the ground--build yourself a riser out of some 4x8 plywood. you'll be happy you did.

cheers,
wade

Damn, that's a hell of a lot of dampening, LOL. Not that it matters, but you ever check out Moon Gels? Just a thought :)

dad's set

My dad plays a Taye Studio Maple. I haven't seen Taye mentioned anywhere yet. They've been making shells for a long time, but they haven't had their own drums out until a few years ago. $1400 got him all maple shells and a beautiful tone, it's their top of the line. The hardware is nice and heavy, we were amazed at what it sounded like right out of the box, bass drum especially.
