Gear 1 Music site-any good/bad stories

I am just about to buy some Yorkville YSMp1's on this Gear1Music.com site. I've seen the site referred to here on these boards a few times. Anyone have any good/bad experiences with the site?

I looked on Yorkville's site and their dealers in California all seem to be way up in the Bay area. I'd much rather buy them in person but it looks like this GearOne site is the only real sales outlet my web search comes up with.

I am really wary of buying big expensive electronic stuff online and having it shipped- I've had just one bad experience and thats all it takes.

Any notes on Gear One would be greatly appreciated -
or major music store chains that might have these Yorkville's? Their websites don't show them when searched.

You need to be careful buying anything over the internet. Take a trip up to the bay area and score them there or call and have them ship the speakers. If something goes wrong, Alabama is alot further away!
 
Gear 1 is selling them for $448... I am buying them from a small shop in new york for $389 (They should be in on friday!) You might want to shop for a better price, I think I saw them for 399 online.

but then again, gear 1 offers free shipping, and I think they listed the yorkies for 420 last week... so maybe call them and see if you can get that price plus free shipping.

I have a "at home" dealer here in Grand Rapids and I was talking to him about two weeks ago about the York Powered monitors. I have the passive monitors by York and they do a nice job considering the price.

I think he told me he would sell me a pair for about 200 bucks each, or right around that figure.

I'd check with your local stores in California as mentioned rather than take a chance. I'm sure you'll dig the Yorks when you plug them in.

I finally called Niagra NY Yorkville factory myself and asked them in person. Should have done that first.! It wasn't on their website.

For anyone else interested: The dealer is at 1901 Santa Monica Blvd., the Santa Monica Music Center store
