Hi folks, Greets from Perth, Western Australia.

I've just bought a Fostex VF-160, so as I'm likely to to need some help in the future, I thought the polite thing to do would be to introduce myself. The name's Ron, but you can call me deker. I've lurked around this BBS and this forum in particular for a while now and it seems to be populated by people who really know their stuff.

My next purchase will be a drum machine - probably a DR670, and a decent set of headphones (any reccomendations?) - until I afford to get some monitors.

I'm a guitarist, but I can sing, play bass and I've programmed drum machines before.
I mainly like rock'n'roll ( a la MC5, Hellacopters, Sonics Rendezvous Band, BBabies, Hydromatics) but I'm open minded enough to listen without prejudice, much :)

My pride and joy axe is a '66 Epiphone Olympic, made in Kalamazoo.

Anyway, I've said enuff for a newbie...

cheers!

Deker,

Welcome to HR.com from the East Coast.

Sorry I can't advise on the VF but I'm sure if you are patient any future questions will be answered.

hey man, it's goin' great. Slowly but surely sussing out the VF-160. I bought the DR670 and when i get some time next week will try it out with the recorder.
Epi is great and only cost me $800 australian. v.good price for a genuine '66 axe.
I'm looking for a goldtop at the moment.... that's sure to cost much more.

cheers! deker19

Ahh the joys of recordin' huh....the all mighty learning curves that never end (a good thing mind) if they did it'd just get boring....What type of music are you doin' doood?

I've used an analogue recorder so I'm not completely new to recording, but the digital domain is a bit of a new frontier for me. I'm doin rocknroll stuff with a 2 git, bass and drums setup in mind, but I'm doin it all myself for now. Stylewise, it's probably not too dissimilar from the bands that i mentioned in the first post of this thread.

On the weekend I saw a friend's band play (the friend I bought the Epi off) and he had another Epi with a humbucker in the bridge and it was the sweetest sound I'd heard at a gig for ages:eek: Bit of an unusual combination - vintage epi with a PAF played through a Dual Rect. but yeah, gotta get some of that action.

Greetings from WA

Greetings to you from WA-(thats Washington State, USA). I too recently purchased the VF-160 and am experiencing a similar learning curve. I love the machine, but, the manual was obviously translated from Japanese by someone who doesn't speak English! I would very much like to hear from you as your experience grows, and, will be glad to share also...Strobe

ps-I will be visiting your country for the first time next spring(ours). My daughter is marrying a guy from Oz in Melbourne.
