GC Nightmare: Now I know

Bringing in a good amp for trading at a GC is being lazy - you can do a lot better selling on Ebay (local sale only) or Craigs List - remember, GC's got to mark it up to make a profit, so they're not going to give you fair market value.

I agree with this. That's one area where GC really screws you over. No matter what it is - they're gonna give you about half of what you could get out on the personal resale market. That's business though. Can't blame em for that. Unless you need immediate cash to pay for your mistress to get an abortion before your wife finds out, don't trade or sell anything at guitar center.

yep ....... there's no point in them buying something if they can't sell it for a profit.
It's like on Hard Core Pawn where people come in and say they see something selling for around 500 bucks so they want 500 bucks for it.
Why would they pay what they can sell it for?

I know. People have zero business sense. When a big company like guitar center or a car dealership low-balls you, that's not them being dickheads. That's them just trying to conduct good business.

I was in my local guitar shop not so long ago (it's GuitarGuitar, they're pretty big online with a few stores nationwide) and I was asking if they do trade in (was interested in a sweet sweet Gretsch they have there). He said they do, but they recommend selling yourself as they'd only offer 2/3 of market value, which I thought was surprisingly honest of him.

And 2/3rds is pretty good too.
 
I bought a Mustang III amp on line, they told me it was shipped on a certain date. I called back to verify due to it being around a holiday, they confirmed it was shipped. When it didn't arrive on the date they said it would I called back to find it actually had not been shipped until that morning . . .I was pissed. I called for a manager and the guy gave me offer of $25 off a future purchase. When I went to the local store I had them put the balance on a card after I bought a couple of picks. At leaset they made it right . . .but I don't like to be lied to
