I was wondering if anyone knew of any plugins available to acheive that "underwater" effect. Not just a tremolo, but that "undewater" sound where you can actually hear the bubbles in the effect. Does anyone have ANY idea what I'm talking about.

The only example I can think of off the top of my head is in "MX" by The Deftones.

record the sound of blowing a straw into a glass of water into a pc. turn down the pitch and eq it properly for the bubble sound, and copy it over your recording.

I found a Gargle effect on Sonar last night.
I was wondering what the hell that was.
Now I know.
Thanks ridi.

Okay... I was wondering if there is a DirectX or VST plugin that achieves this effect. Anybody?

I dont know of any plugins that are made for this sound. The Gargle effect in sonar just sounds like some crappy distortion to me. But something tells me if you mess around with a flanger enough and maybe a low pass filter you might be able to achieve something like what youre talking about. If not you can always get the vocalist into a pool or hot tub or something and get one of those oversized condoms to slip over your mic and put it under water. its been done before. Just make sure you dont dip the mic down far enough for water to get into the condom, and dont get the lubed kind. Oh and use a cheap mic, cuz the latex will probably make your mic stink for a while. Just a thought. :D

:) Or, take a (non-mounted) speaker.
find a funnel with a same diameter as the speaker.
attach the funnel to the speaker (duckt tape!).
attach a rubber / plastic hose to the end of the funnel.
fill your mouth with water and put the end of the hose in your mouth.
play the music you want the effect on through the speaker.
now gargle, and record the sound coming out of your mouth.:D
