Okay, I'm some what of a newbie when it comes to live sound so I have some questions. I took a picture of a PA rack at an event I went to because the sound at this place is out of this world awsome! so I'm going to go down the line on all the boxes and if someone could tell me what each does I'd REALLY REALLY appreciate it.

DBX 166XL

DOD 431Qx
DBX 160A
American Audio SCO-100
ADM 1024 Effectron II
MXR pitch transpondor display
MXR pitch transponder
DBX 120XP Subharmonic Synthisizer

Turkey BASSIST.

50 cool points to the a/v techie who can name them all!

Okay, I will tell you up front I'm not very familiar with everything, so here it goes

DBX 166XL-- Is a dual compressor, it controls the dynamic range,http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...39795853/g=rec/search/detail/base_pid/183548/

DBX 160A-- Same as above, just a different model
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...39795853/g=rec/search/detail/base_pid/183542/

DBX 120XP Subharmonic Synthisizer-- is a bass enchanement processor, one of the greats of the past
http://www.djtools.com/dbx12subsyn.html

ADM 1024 Effectron II--it's a good delay unit, I was trying to get one at my local pawn shop but it sold just before I came back to get it, but here are some reviews
http://www.effectsdatabase.com/reviews/974/

DOD 431Qx-- I not sure about this, but I wan tto say it's a EQ I have heard of the 231QX, but not the 431

I sorry this is it, you can check out some reviews at www.soundonsound.com
and www.harmony-central.com

I hope this helps
Peace

Not to be rude, but I would have to say that the good sound was due to either/or/or both a good band and a good engineer. The only "rider friendly" piece of gear on that list is the DBX 160A.

Yea, I'm a sound contractor and they is nothing in that rack that's that great. If you want some good results get some Renkus-Heinz speakers, Soundcraft mixer, Audix OM5 mics and BSS DSP processing. Then you will have a great system

I will second deepwater's vote for BSS, but I have yet to hear a RH speaker system that really impressed me, don't like the Audix mics much, and feel that Soundcraft is too overpriced. All just opinions though. We all have certain things we like more than others, and also, I have never really paid any attention to the Renkus Heinz SC install stuff so I can't make any sort of judgement there. I should also mention that the Soundcrafts I was referring to were the Series 5 consoles, and the MH line looks a little more reasonable. As for Audix, I don't dislike them at all, I just never felt they lived up tp the hype is all. Haven't heard a reason to switch from Shure yet. Well, the Neumann 105 is a good reason, but it comes at a price:)

from my experience I think B-52 speakers are really good, I like their subs the best.

ok so here go some questions. this is how my band is setup:

full size 5 piece drum set (3 mics)
congas (4 mics)
rototoms/timbales (2 mics)

3 keyboards
2 guitars (lead/bass)

4 vocals

So that's 18 channels of my 24 channel mixer
Questions:

I'm about to build my rack in about a month. I got my eye on 2 8-space cabinents for $200 (not bad huh')

What should I put in these racks judging from the instruments I got. We are kind of like a hip hop rock n roll funk type band,(lots of thumping bass, LOT of percussion) little bit of everything when you think about it

THANKS a million....for anyone who helps

I don't know much about B-52s except that they have a sloppy loose bass. I deal with highend pro audio like Renkus-Heinze, ISP, EAW and EV. I install systems in mega churches and work with regional Bands.

I would be happy to spec you a system but I need to know your budget and what sizze venus you play at.
