I have searched the internet forums high & low for a solution to my problem. From what I've seen, it seems like a lot of people are having the same or similar problems that I'm having but still, I've seen no solution posted. I'm hoping that maybe someone will have discovered a solution to the problem that many of us seem to be having.

I'm using Sonar 4 Producer Edition with the Tascam FW-1884 (driver 1.40) on a Windows XP Home Edition computer.

There is no surface control functions between Sonar and the 1884 when the 1884 is in Native mode!

When I got these two items about a month or so ago, everything seemed to work fine for about a week. Then suddenly out of the blue, Sonar didn't want to recognize the 1884 in its Native mode. Since then I've scoured the forums, the help features and ReadMe files, uninstalled and reinstalled all the drivers and software programs in every order you could think of. I've followed all the instructions, and have configured the Control Surfaces and MIDI Devices options as they should be (in Sonar). Still there is no Surface Control between Sonar and the 1884 when the 1884 is in Native mode! I do not think my problem has anything to do with the order in which I'm turning on the the 1884, my computer & Sonar - no matter what order I try, nothing seems to change.

It's working fine as a soundcard (inputs, outputs, monitoring is OK), and oddly enough it works fine (I think) in Mackie Emulation Mode, although apparently in that mode, most of the shortcut keys don't work, nor the EQ section on the console (and there's a few other things I don't like about it). The Native Mode is what its suppose to be in when using Sonar, and that's where I'd like it so I can use the full features of the 1884 control surface.

As a side note (which may be important), I believe that I installed the Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) at about that time, although I've since uninstalled and reinstalled all the software & drivers several times since then but sill no improvements (although others have said that they use XP with the SP2 with no adverse affects).

As another side note, the Options-Control Surfaces menu seems really problematic. Because I've been trying to fix my problem so many times, so many ways, I've added the 1884 (native) as a control surface option about 6 times. I cannot remove them (there's actually six of the exact same thing in the list) as every time I try it gives me an error message and then completely crashes my computer. Oddly enough this has never changed regardless of the number of times I've uninstalled and reinstalled Sonar?!?! Not only that, but the In & Out options on the 1884 are always removed and left blank. I always have to go back in and add the 1884 control for both In and Out. The one Mackie Control mode that I have usually remembers the settings for the 1884 control on the In & Out, but sometimes it forgets that too. No reasons for this seem apparent.

ANY HELP OR SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE AWESOME!!!
