Just a caution on updating the FW-1884 drivers to version 1.1, and the firmware to 45/149.
I did and am a bit sorry I did so.
This is what I know so far.

1. New driver caused mouse conflicts. Eradic mouse motion on the screen. Not real bad but enough to be annoying.

2. Sample rate changes in the FW-1884 control panel causing the unit to go out of sync. (I use Lucid genx96). The Lucid keeps all the gear synced up, but does not control the Tascam software. The software would change sample rate unannounced. Not good.

3. General Sonar PE3 instability. (sample rate changes, audio drop outs)

I'm backing the driver back down to 1.0, but the Tascam firmware update is a bit more difficult to deal with.

My Sonar system is down at the moment. (no FW-1884) so it's a bit on the frustrating side.

I'm probaly going to hit Tascam support.

Anyone else having trouble?

Anyone else dealt with Tascam support. (good or bad?)

Thanks

John  :(

THanks for the caution! Overall reactions to the 1884? Still a good buy?

Oh yes

When you are dealing with computers you have to expect some problems with software upgrades. I've not seen one yet that didn't have glitches. That's not really the issue.

The key is how the software developer responds and supports.
As far as Tascam is concerned, I've found them to be good.

I'll work through it. I'll keep everyone updated.

I still say the Fw-1884 is a good unit.

The gnomes won this one

Appears as though the problem is solved.

I reloaded FW-1884 1.1 drivers from scratch. (hand deleted registry entries per Tascam instructs), and reloaded Sonar 3 and 3.1 and 3.1.1.

System has been stable for over a week now with heavy use.
All seems well.

I have no explaination except computer "gnomes". You know those things that run around inside a computer raising hell, and then just disappear only to be reborn into some other glitch causing gastro inflamation and chronic cursing.

Go figure.....

I had the same problem when i installed the new driver update.

I hand deleted the registry entries and uninstalled the driver as well, but i still couldn't get it to work properly with Samplitude 7.2. So i'm back to Driver ver1.0. I'm not using the expansion mixers so I don't think it's a big deal.

"Don't Fix what's not broken"

I haven't had many problems with the old driver though so i'm pretty happy, and the functions work really well in Samplitude.

Say HORN...does that softlcd work? and what is it really supposed to be anyways???

It doesn't do much on my system.

I think it's intended to be a banner or something to let you know the fw-1884 is operational on the computer, and I think I read where it's there for future use. (what ever that may be.)

I found it served no purpose for me, so I deleted the icon.
I pretty much know when the Fw-1884 is hooked up and working.
*wink*
