FW 1884 and 896HD

Morning,

Currently I am setup using a:
Dual G5 1.8 MAC 2g RAM, OSX 10.3 /w Digital Performer 4
MOTU 896HD and a FW1884 (For control interface and midi)
KORG Triton Studio

I am having issues with connectivity with the 1884 between DP4 the Console and the KORG. I figured I could still use the MIDI portion of the Tascam without it using its core audio driver and simply as the midi controller.

Looking for pointers or any info and possibly any who owns any of these machines or all together.

well the 1884's big selling feature is that it's firewire... why would you just want to use it as a midi contoller???
 
The MOTU has no midi ins or outs, so in turn with a control surface i get 4/4 midi and 8 ins outs with inserts.

My initial plan was to use the extra ints and the stereo out ability to pre mix a drum kit and perc. and or horns. Then output from the Tascam to a MOTU input for recording.

I had the MOTU First, I wanted a control surface plus something I could use on the road for recording.

Was just interested to see if anyone owned both and its use in the home studio.
