Hi everyone,
Just finished a song called WhichWayToTheFuture. This is actually a reworking of a song I did a while ago, but I don't think I ever posted the first version. Any and all feedback greatly appreciated!

Thanks very much,

Hi there popstar

The song sounds good as always...

keep it coming.;) I love those vocal harmonies.

Temporarily unavailable--you need to lose some friends :)--I'll check back lata

Macle:

Glad I downloaded this one when I got Buzz(Thanks!). Wish your site will be up running again soon for the others.

I was a bit surprised by the intro, it was definitely something I didn't expect from you, but it leads me into the song well. Again, loving the progression of the song like always. Awsome change/harmanies at around 1:40!

Have you thought about doing a song where the vocals are up front? I will definitely love to get a closer listen to you and your girl's vocals :)

Good Job!!!

Killer tune dude!MIXMKR started a thread the other day with users naming their favorite artists on the Homerecording BB and I knew I was forgetting somebody important!I downloaded all of your previous tunes(more than 8) that you had on your website months ago before I ever signed up as a member here.

Great stuff ,and if I remember correctly you record on the same machine that I have, the VF-16.You've got a really good sound there with a real unique vocal style with you and your Girlfreind.

Another great tune!:D

p.s. How do you deal with the low end problem on the VF-16?From the sounds of your songs you are dealing with it quite well.

Great tune, recording and mix my friend. I thought you were tracking on a Paris sytem?

great stuff....great mix and production. You obviously have a trained ear for the small details that make the gigantic statements....even down to the precisely executed, long drawn out fadeout..

Some might say to bring up the vocals the smallest smidgen....but at this point, I don't think it's really much of an issue.

macle, macle, macle....i keep hearing people rave but I can't get to your site :(

Riku-Thanks! :)

AL-Yeah, the intro is sort of a different thing, isn't it? I wasn't sure about that. I wanted to do something that was spacey but not overly synthy, but, hmmm, I don't know...I may do a mix editing that stuff out, or shorter, or...as far as louder vocals, I keep thinking the next CD will be way more stripped down, no mellotrons and strings and junk, maybe a little more serious and less cartoonish, so the vocals will probably be way more of the focus. Thanks a lot for checking it out!

Kramer-Thanks!! Track Rat is right, I use Paris. I'm not sure what a VF-16 is. I'm thinking that's the Fostex 16 track, right? I had a Roland VS880 before I got Paris, and I always thought that had a bass problem, and the only cure I could figure out was switching to Paris! :) Glad you like the 2 vocal thing. It's hard making that work, we always sort of feel our vocals don't really go together. Thanks again, I appreciate it!

Track Rat-Thanks!

mixmkr-Thanks a lot! I suppose I should do a mix with the vocals up. I actually had the chorus vocal up pretty loud, for an in your face kinda thing, but my girlfriend thought it was too much. Thanks for checking it out, I appreciate it!

Stratomaster, Hard2Hear, and erichenryus-Sorry! Angelfire is so lame. I think they've lowered the bandwidth or something. I suppose I should switch to Nowhere. Hopefully, you'll get a chance to hear it, look forward to your opinions.

Thanks,
Macle

im not much into the production, but DANG this song rocks.

This is probably my favorite of the ones you've posted. Very sweet and energetic and memorable at the same time.

Awesome work, man!

Funk on!

While I didn't like this one as much, I still thought it was a nifty song with some pretty groovy harmonies.. and the production is, once again, good.

but my favorite is Despair... I dig that opening lyric... and the "groove" it has is catchy.. (almost a Fiona Apple sound to it) the other one (the name escapes me) was frighteningly "beetle-esque"... ;) I thought I had stumbled across a lost Lennon recording :D I'm assuming that's the feel you were going for and you definitely nailed it.

Macle:

I think the intro is decent, but I am sure electronic music fans may say different(I am not one). And when the electric guitar kiks in way in the back, I was scared that I downladed someone else's Bon Jovie techno remix. But as soon as the song kicks in, I knew I had the right mp3 :)

now, I love you and respect your talent, but to be very honest only for above reasons, I have to tell you, I was a little disappointed when I first heard this tune for 2 reasons:

The intro was a little bit of weak. It's like a half-ass techno. Just not there yet. But, it was definitely a new flavor I never expected form you. So, very surprising, but not quite interesting enough. Second the arrangement was not so different from your previous songs. Now, I didn't sit down and say, ok, verse, verse, chourse, but, just by walking around and listening, I picked out little/similar things you did before. Like, "oh, that transition with that beat is from Joke..." So, it didn't satisfy my surprise with the techno intro.

I really hope you don't get offended here. Love your stuff like always and that's why I feel like I have to give you some honest opinion.

"Next CD"?? When did the "previous CD" ever come out? Let me know where I can purchase them, Thanks!

AL

Hey Cyan- thanks! That's great, cuz it's supposed to be just a fun sort of tune. Curious, though what you mean about the production. Do you mean the arrangement, or do you mean the sound of the recording? Thanks again.

WATYF-Thanks alot! That's cool about not liking it as much, not sure I do either! :p :) Glad you like Despair, and I'm guessing the other one you're talking about is Joke, which is probably the most Beatley. That Lennon comment is great, cuz I'm a HUGE fan.

AL-I appreciate you're honesty greatly! I'm really beginning to question the intro stuff (I wasn't entirely happy with it before). It's not really supposed to be techno, more just an effect collage type thing leading into the song. The first version of this song just had a guitar riff leading in, maybe I'll switch back.

About the similarities to other songs, that's a tough one, cuz on the one hand, you want to have things be different, but on the other, you want them to tie together and be similar (something that was a real task, cuz I was trying to blend the two of us as well, and make something cohesive.)

The "previous" CD is this one, which I've been working on for what seems like forever! :) These songs I've been posting which hopefully will become a CD. The "next" one is the one I'm itching to do cuz I'm so burnt out on this one! :D

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

Real nice song - GREAT melody and harmonies. I real strong chorus would have made it better - but it was a bit (just a bit) of letdown musically. Great production. The guitars sounded outstanding.

The lead vocals sounded somewhat "squeaky" - anyway that's the best word I could come up with. Damn I love those harmonies and guitars (in case I wasn't clear the first time).

finally got through...glad i waited! man, now i see why everyone is so positive on your stuff. you got skills! and you got a new fan.

it all sounds so smooth to me. a giant lush sort of quality to it. it's hard for me to describe but i just feels like a really BIG mix. i'm obviously lacking the words right now but it sounds very pro anyway.

I can definitely hear the Lennon influence on Buzz.

I'm gonna be honest and I'm sorry I wasn't around for the threads commenting on the other two songs (Buzz, Despair) but I like them better than this one. It's a great song and I really can't say that I would ask you to change anything cause it's perfect and I'm sure I'll never do anything this good.

Thanks a lot for sharing.

I got 1:36 to download, how wierd, go figure.

I totally get the beginning on this song. It's taking us to the future. I think it fits the song concept totally. It's not about being a specific style of music, "is it techno, is it not?" rather, the concept of the song. I think you captured it. Now if I could get the rest of the song.....

BTW, we need to talk, I'm sending you an email. :)

I feel like a dumb ass:o I thought for sure you had a Fostex VF-16.Oh well it still sounds great!I have all of your previous tunes on a CD,
All AboutYou,
Despair,
Fingerprints,
Hardcore,
Joke,
Millennium,
Rag,
So Long and
The Buzz Is Over.

Everybody I've turned onto it really likes it!

The first time I dl'ed, I only got 48 sec of it but the second time I got it all, and it was killer. Actually all three tunes were killer. Very PRO sounding. I wouldn't have guessed these were done at home.

Twist

Another great production.

The vocals do get a little burried especially in the verse. I'm not sure if it's the actual volume or if they just need a little EQ for presence.

You could probably raise the reverse tape in the intro to give a little more tension so when the song kicks in it has a little more impact. That jet sound that continues into the song also ruins the impact. Try it with the jet stopping right as the song kicks in so it is more drastic. Just some thoughts.

I'd agree it's not as catchy as the rest of the CD but it has some stiff competition. The chorus would make a good commercial jingle for a tech company.

Send me an email when you guys are finished and ready to start shopping for a label. texroadkill@yahoo.com
