I have a POD. I like the POD. I just want something I can step on with only a couple of knobs that I can tweak. Someone mentioned earlier that with the the multi-fx units or modellers, you can eat up more time just looking for the perfect patch or setting than time being productive. I am that guy. Plus my attention span sucks so by the time I find a suitable setting, I can't rermember what I was trying to record. :o
 
I'm no pedal expert but I really like the sound of a tube screamer pushing a valve amp.
 
I've got a POD, though it sounds kind of fizzy and ill-defined with my gear, so I don't use it much. I suppose a lot of what I play could be classified as alt-rock or something, so a good chorus pedal is important - I've got the Boss CE-20, it's a £150 pedal with four programmable presets, as far as OD/distortion sounds go, I've got a US Big Muff (doesn't really sound very good with my current amp) and a Boss OS-2, which I quite like, though I'd really rather have good amp distortion (nice and sharp, like an AC30)

Other pedals I have are a Boss EQ-7, which is fairly useful, though I'm thinking of selling it and getting the 10 band programmable footswitch one. and an EH Pulsar (a Tremolo pedal that I'm still getting used to) I also have an EH Stereo memory man deluxe, which is quite a nice delay pedal, though it does tend to suck the treble out of your sound.
 
You might want to consider the Boss Blues Driver. I just got one this past weekend to put in front of my Epiphone Valve Junior. The jury is still out on whether it is the most badass overdrive ever, but it does a few very neat things. People cream all about the Keeley mod to this pedal, but I'm not familiar with that one personally.

Yea, I'll probably get one eventually. They're popular at HC and at the Mesa forum.

the Bad Monkey has some good sounds in there. not very much gain though - i use it before a Boss DS-1 at the moment (likely to change though, it's a bit too clangy and annoying for me.)

actually, saying that - how do people find the Pro Co Rat pedals? i was thinking either that, or the Big Muff Pi from electro harmonix. i'm also looking at the Pulsar from their box of tricks - i think i could use a tremolo that could be used to some fairly aggressive/out-right-wierd degree :p

is there anything to building an A/B switch, because i dont want to buy the original pedal for my amp, ($40 bucks) if i can make one.

im thinking its just 3 jacks and a switch, but is there anything else, ie diodes capaciters?
 
wait thats stupid, of course there is, its a switching circuit, never mind that!
 
A guitarist in a band I'm in uses a Boss multi fx unit - I can't remember which one. He is seemingly incapable of using simple overdrive or getting a sweet clean sound. Everything has delay/reverb/chorus/phase/octave/compression on it to some degree. The sound is so far removed from honest guitar tone that it actually nauseates me.

I use a Fulltone Fulldrive II, Deja Vibe, and Clyde wah. A lot of the time I use nothing.

At the risk of sounding like some purist dork (of which I am not), I don't really get any sound I may have with pedals, with the exception of a basic Boss delay for the occasional effect, which is certainly not crucial. A couple high ranking favorite players of mine are Duane Denison and of course, Angus, and neither have a complicated tone at all. That's how I play, even though I love very 'effected' guitar sounds.
 
I'm not real big on effected guitar tone either.

I'll post a couple of links after I get something recorded with the Classic 30. It's the first time I've recorded with it.
 
Hey ez, I just got myself a Classic 30 a few weeks ago because I like Peaveys (yes I do) and wanted an affordable tube amp. I really love this amp from the first chord I played on it. I have a TS7 which I bought off ebay ($49)which is modded with the original TS808 chip which I can switch out with the original chip it came with (my understanding is that it is the same chip the TS9 has). My opinion on this pedal is still out, I need to use it more than I have. What I really like is the DOD Icebox in front of it.
 
When I did one rumble, I thought, "Ha, ha! I'll use the nastiest sounding preset in the RP50!" And it sound nasty by itself. Then I put it with the rumble and it sounded really good in the mix. What a bewildering lesson.

For an AB box theres really only going to be 3 jacks and a switch as you said except if you want led indicators (which are pretty useful) then you'll need 2 LEDs and 2 resistors too. i can probably find a schematic if you need one. this my first post by the way
