I brought my 788 Digiportastudio to a little jazz/mixed bag gig in Newport, at a little place called "Billy Goode's" last Saturday night. [We're called "The Buddy Roach Trio", and do the Gamut from "All Blues" (Miles) to "Surf Rider" (the Ventures, who copped it from someone I can't recall right now). So we generally start the night off kind of lo-key, and escalate into some form of semi-madness as the night progresses. But I digress...]

I hung a (just bought new) Studio Projects B-3 mic from the cieling, set in 'Omni' mode, flat, and ran it into an ART Tube MP, then in to the 788. That was it, we played 3 sets.

I brought it home, and the next day ran it into Cool Edit Pro 2 (via the stereo outs, thanks again, Trillian!), and it sounds great! A little 'Mastering EQ', maybe a touch of compression adjusted 'just-so', and voila! Lo-Fi demo for hooking a few more gigs for our bottom-feeding,floor-scrubbing combo.

And a fairly shining testimony for 'Studio Projects', as well as ART, I suppose.

Anyway, isn't recording fun?

SP mics are pretty well liked. What suprises me is that you got good sound using the Tube MP!

Well I'm no veteran as far as recording, but I like what I hear coming out from my signal chain. I did a back-to-back with the Presonus Tube-Pre just speaking into the mic in my basement studio, and dug the sound of the ART better.

Gotta do what you like and make it work, I guess. Now, if I had a couple grand to spend...
