Aphex 142 Analog to Digitial converter modified by Jim Williams from audio upgrades.
Audio Upgrades
The basic Aphex 142 provides a very simple and clean AD conversion via ADAT and word clock IN. The unit is part of Aphex's excellent Anaconda snake system, but units are compatible with other pro audio equipment as well. The only exception being that the 142 can only clock at 48k and can only accept word clock IN.
Not an issue as this is pretty much an ADAT standard.
I liked the unit so much I had it 'upgraded' by Jim Williams in California. Below is a description of the modification from Jim.
"I used the new BurrBrown OPA1612 rail to rail opamps for the ADC buffers and National LME 49720 oppamps for the 5532 input opamps. The input blocking caps were removed so that should open up the tops and extend the low end. There are 2 remaining caps that now have film cap bypasses to open up the sound. It was a lot of detail work insides. Total comes to $300"
Basically he turned a $400 unit into a converter than can compete with the ultra high end converters. I've compared it to my Mytek 8x192 and its right up there. Amazing sounding unit.
