Well I picked up Fruiy Loops 3.0 in the box at GC.

I loaded it fine BUT untill you register the product online even the CD loaded version is locked into "Demo Mode".

The problem is it WON'T LET ME register the product or get tech support until I register the product.

Can you say Catch 22?

The web site directs you to the instalation CD link to register a store bought version.

Well clicking on the register icon on the CD sends me to a blank Netscape page with ABSOLUTELY NO LINK in the address. None, NADA, B L A N K.

Back to the website;

"You are not registerd and no support is availalable for the free trial version...please see our FAQ for help. If this product was purchased in the box on CD click the registration icon and fill out completely"

There is no blinking form (or non blinking form for that matter) any where.

The CD and program reads as Fruity Loops 3.0 COMPLETE. I have restarted the PC and reloaded the CD.

Any Fruity Loopers out there who ran into this and how the heck do I get around it?

I hate to say this, but I think you should use this problem as an opportunity to return it!!

The main reason is that when you buy direct from fruityloops.com you get free upgrades *for life*, and you don't get this when you buy boxed versions. I don't know how much you picked up the boxed version for, but the full version online is $99.

Slackmaster,

This is the 3.0 FULL ($99) version includes the free upgrades for life. It is the same product.

Evidentally they protect themselves from piracy by only including a locked demo version until you offer prof of purchase by the individual SN or code #on the CD case.

Once you have registered you are unlocked and have your account for free upgrade support.

The catch is the registration link on the CD does not work for some reason and you can't use the website to register a store bought version with out this link.

I think this also would prevent someone from selling a used one to someone else after it has been registered. They would only get the free demo version unless they paid Fruity Loops.

I did find an FAQ link on the CD help menu with a specific e-mail address for registration issues.

The first e-mail I sent was returned for some reason that I did not understand but referred to to an e-mail "code of conduct" page so I assume my subject heading was too long and I have resubmitted it.

So far I have spent over three hours trying to get this thing to work.

ARG!

This is SO why I did not want to go the PC based recording route... but I can't afford the Yamaha 2816 or comparable Roland. Unfortunately it is the PC for now or my 4-track cassette and got a great deal on the DARLA 24/96 and I already have a PC so Fruity Loops sounded like teh way to go.

We will see.

Well My second and third e-mail attempts have been returned.

The link from the Postmaster indicated that the supplied e-mail address from Fruity Loops is invalid and asks you to report the Domain that gave you the address to their organization so I did.

While it gave me a little satisfaction to report them I still can't get my program to run or get tech suport.

I did send an e-mail to just general tech support but have not recieved the usual notice of reciept notification.

Buying online is not a good option for me right now as I had to close all credit and debit card accounts due to my wifes abuse of them.

I feel an ulcer coming on........and an entire day off of anticipated delight has been spent in utter frustration.

ARG!

Interesting...so what do they mean on this page:

http://www.fruityloops.com/documents/144.html

"The 'boxed' version of contains all Full features +
A box
Printed manual
DreamStation DXi ($35)
CD containing +3300
royalty free samples

Warning!
This DOES NOT include the Lifetime free updates and Buzz Support."

Hope you get it straightened out!

Well I'm not sure how to reconcile the two but my box came with NO written Manual in the box ....just a CD and the outside of the box lists all the features such as free life time support etc, Beat Slicer demo etc. and is labelled as the FULL version.

There is definitely some contridiction going on here.

If I spent $99 for a demo version I am going postal on someone at Fruity Loops!

If I spent $99

Sorry to have butted into your thread without being able to help BTW...but this whole "boxed version" thing is kinda confusing.

I hope you can get this sorted out. I wonder if you've got some special GC version or something?

The nice thing about fruity once you get it running is that you shouldn't need much if any tech support...if that's any consolation :(

Slackmaster,

Hey I appreciate any help or effort to help!

The "free update for life" may have been a misunderstanding on my part. The whole PC recording software world is new to me and I am not 100% comitted to going that direction yet.

From just my readings in this forum I had read about the free upgrades for life but I was unaware that was anything available except for boxed versions.

I did some research on the going street price at the usual online retailers to negotiate with GC and 3.0 was the latest version out so I assumed all current versions (except for the free trial versions) included this.

Still with 3.0 being the latest and greatest available from Fruiy Loops at retail and being labeled as the FULL version Ithought this had all the bells and whistles availabe.

It was only after buying and installing the software that I found out that there are multiple levels out there and that according to your link none of the boxed versions come with the free upgrades for life that I had read about.

But I guess I can pay for the "free" upgrades for life someday:mad:

Update on the boxed Fuity LoopsFull.

Well it took about ten days and almost as many e-mails back and forth with support to unlock my store bought Full version to a Full status.

It should have come out of the box ready to go but excessive piracy protection makes you jump through several hoops talking several days to actually get what you though came in the box.

Two thumbs down on ease of use.

I did get regular one day response turn around time to my questions but it was painfully obvious many of the responders did not really read my question or problem. Many of the responses were contridictory.

Has anyone else bought the boxed version?

You shoulda bought it online. It always takes a day or so to get your registration information, since I think they do it by hand, but that's the breaks when the product costs $99... And fruity is still pirated, it's just done to a lesser extent than the big packages. Imagine how cheap we could all get Cubase, Sonar, Logic, etc. if the piracy issue was somewhat resolved.

Charger,

You shoulda bought it online.

Yeah I am coming to that conclusion.....

The thing is I did not know it was even available online!

I have been threatening to return it to GC and I will be very specific to GC that the manufactuer of Fruity Loops is underselling them when buying direct rather than from GC (or any retailer). That is a definite business no-no....you NEVER undersell your retailers with a better product for the same price.

So far Fruity Loops is not budging so far but I have asked them to pass my complaints up the ladder to management.

We will see.
