This thread is the next stage from a collaboration in the Songwriting section.
https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=283381

Basically I cybergord had a song written in guitar form and Mart[1001] generously recorded the keyboard tracks and has presented them as downloadable wav files in the best quality.

I have my vocal track and some guitar and when you hear this, its nothing short of brilliant.

So we are would like to offer the tracks to anyone here to show their mixing skills.

We have alreay participated in a fantastic thread for my last song 'Soul Motion' at the Mixing/Mastering section which was a great success and still has mixers interested even after 4 months.

This project is a little more professional and more challenging. All the tracks are highly organised and have relevant ReadMe files to help with set up. We would love to recreate the success of the last thread and learn a lot more in the process.

You can play around with the sound and arrangement as much as you like, we are looking for killer mix which will probably turn into some sort of contest again.

This song is a more mellow moody compared to my last one, but it still isn't tiresome, personally I'm looking for a mix that will give me shivers down the spine and evoke some emotion.

Here is an example mix by Mart[1001] who was experimenting with the guitar track, with a relatively unmixed arrangment

Never Let A Good Thing Slip Away

How about it?

Here are the raw files in 7 zipfiles

I'll give it a try tonight and post something up for you within 24 hours, thankx for the share!

Here's a rough one. Didn't mess with the drums at all, takes too much time to do it right.

Downloading... what's the key and tempo??? hope to have it by tomorrow.

This IS fun stuff. Really interesting to hear everyone's mixes. All different, but I like em all.

Here you go with 4 hours on the mix, my ears are playing tricks on me!
The image is not quite there, as far as what I'm looking for, but maybe some feedback could get me there! Good song by the way, I always enjoy mixing down your songs!-LV

Never Let A Good Thing Slip Away-RoughDraft

Thanks Louie for starting the ball rolling. Not bad.
I' don't know how to comment yet......I guess it would be more haunting with good use of reverb and echo delay.....I've yet to learn.
And yes I will mix it myself ....but not without inspiration first.
I only have Acid 5 at the moment it isnt very versitile.
Still I'm happy to share these tracks for others to try their skills.

I'm sure there's an ultimate mix .....time will tell. Enjoy

Cool, thanks cybergord! Yeah, the vocals might be a bit dry (they actually have reverb and delay on them) but, I did this all on headphones and I didn't want to over do it. I'll probably try to tidy up the end later...ran outta time before I had to go to a meeting. Thanks again!

OK, finally got the correct files. Here's the new mix.

Is there a due date for the final mix?

I'm the world's worst procrastinator. :D

Guitar zero - ...my vocals are way too exposed for my comfort. Even I am going to work on that this weekend. Im singing and I hate to hear myself right up front with hardly any reverb. Im not the best of singers.....but there's got to be away to get me to sound good :)

Dastrick- No deadline for this mix, its a bit of fun at the moment. Eventually I'll want to put it on youtube with a video of sorts. The best mix will be featured. It's fun in progress.

Actually, this is still the vocal from the first version. I did put reverb on it, but I didn't slather it on. I'll mess with the second vocal version and see if that can be spiffed up a bit.

By the way, the vocals are fine for this song.

Producing

Some people are giving me bad rep here at hr...think Im getting stuff for free?
I don't care...but understandable if I was making money??
But you know what, I'm a producer, I'm proactive a doer....

When I had my own little studio, I would invite musicians...encourage them, and bring the best out of them....something I can carry on in here.

Im not particularly good at mixing or recording, but I'm organised and can give and take inspiration. I have the courage to share my raw files and I learn from others in the learning process or pro's showing off their skills.

You'll see, my projects will end with something special and all those involved will be part of it and get the credit they deserve. Good or bad mixes?...it doesnt matter....all part of the process to create something worthwhile.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to explore my challenges.
Moaners stay away.
Cheers
