my friend got a delta 44 soundcard and set it up with his computer. he then got a 1/4 adapter for headphones to plug into the OUTS... but the sound coming from his computer only comes out the left headphone.. we can't get it to work with all the mixers on the Delta Control Panel.. any help?

I assume the OUTS are mono. headphones are wired tip = left, ring = right and sleeve = shield.

There's no ring signal if it's a mono out. It's only going to be the tip; left ear.

You need to do one of a couple of things:
connect the outs to a headphone amp, which will combine the left and right signals into one stereo signal.

Go to radio shack and buy a connector that combines two mono signals into one stereo female headphone jack. I don't know if these exist because I'd just solder it myself.

I would reccomend a combination headphone/monitor routing system, like the Mackie Big Knob. That's the ideal solution. because mixing shouldnt' be done on headphones, the outs of the Delta 44 are not meant to power headphones and your friend would have some very useful routing options.

cheers

is there any way to run onboard sound at the same time as the delta ?

No need with the Delta! I've been running the Delta 44 since 2000 (six years!!!!) and I've never used it with the onboard sound. In fact, I've disabled the onboard sound in the BIOS. You should have no problems routing all sounds from your PC to the Delta. It sounds much better. Not sure why you'd have such a great audio interface, only to playback stuff through the crummy onboard sound.
