What do you all think is a good delay pedal for live use? I an thinking about buying the Boss DD6. I like the online sound clips, and from what I hear Boss is pretty durable. I would mostly be using it to get as many trippy sounds as possible with one new pedal. I'm also looking at the Boss RV3 Digital Reverb. I heard Johhny Greenwood uses that.

The Line 6 is indeed a great sounding pedal.... BUT, durability/dependability has been a HUGE issue, (just check Harmony Central's reviews)....

Might be a contender for home studio use, but live, I'd go w/ the Boss.... Those things last forever, and take abuse well...
 
Boss pedals are certainly reliable. I have some old ones that just will not die. Good stuff.
 
Line 6 DL-4 is awesome...by far the most versatile. The Boss pedals are a little more intuitive to use and also sound great, but they're just a lot more limited.
 
I have the DD6. Very nice in the delay area. The reverse effect is cool. The sampling part leaves a bit to be desired. It only samples about 5 seconds, but overal I wouldn't trade it for anything I have used yet.
 
I'm a big fan of boss delay pedals. They have a new one out that does almost everything the Line6 DL4 does, but better and cheaper too! I think it's called the DD20. However, the dd6 is a solid petal that you will probably never get rid of.
 
noiseportait is right, the new boss delay pedal is amazing, tap tempo, programability, lots of options. and i have seen very few come back through returns of musicians freind, but the few that have come my way i have sat there for 20 or so minutes messing with them. sound just as good as the dd6 and the line 6 delay. one thing the dd6 does not have anymore (that boss is damn retarded for getting rid of) is the tap tempo jack for a pedal. you have to hold down the pedal to tap in the tempo. which doesnt sound bad, but live it really sucks if your like me and turn your delay on and off about 6 times a song.

and yes the line 6 pedals do have some quality issues (switch gets loose and the board breaks and stuff). just get the new boss giga delay and you will be extremely happy. i own about 6 delay pedals, 3 are in my live rig, and once i get around to buying one of these, i doubt i will mess with anything else i have except for maybe the echoplex. they are well worth the money.
 
I cant believe noone has mentioned Ibanez Delay pedals. They are great. I like the silver delay/echo with the ressessable knobs. it is great. its roadworthyness is questionable but for the price you an buy 2 and have a backup. Just dont use batteries it will eat about 2 in a 3 hour set. Ibanez has always made great delays. Trust me its worth the listen. oh yeah, dont buy a soundtank.
 
I know for sure the DD-5 does.

IMHO the rev/del pedal kinda, well, blows. The verb sounds nothing like anything you'd ever want and you don't really have delay control- or should I say much delay control.

If I had to say something nice about it, I'd say it definitely has it's own unique sound... :rolleyes:
 
A friend of my swears by the Reverb/Delay pedal by Boss, but he's a bit on the odd side. (never tried it myself)

For my two cents, i think that the DL4 is an excellent buy. The sounds are amazing, and the loop sampler is a ton of fun. However, my DL4's loop sampler HAS busted before, so i'm not too sure on the durability of these things. My other two choices would be Boss's DD20 or Akai's Headrush pedal which i've heard great things about.

Ooooooohhh... forgot about the headrush. Cool pedal! Multiple outputs for each delay tap if you want. Set up three amps, instant surround!!!! Great decay, nice analog sound. I have the intelliphase by them. It's great.
 
I spent a few hours alone with this pedal tonight and wrote 3 new songs. Man, best purchase I have made yet.

The Boss DD-20 or whatever it is? Really....who the hell needs 20-something seconds of delay?

The Boss DD-6? I've got one and yeah the delay sounds great, but the tap tempo system sucks. You have to hold the pedal down for more than 2 seconds to get into the tap tempo mode. Unfortunately, that has the side effect of turning the delay on too.

The Boss DD-5? I don't have one but I'd like to get one some time, because it's basically a DD-6 (minus a few unused features) with a decent tap tempo.

Line6 DL-4? Ok, yeah, it's a modeller. I don't know how well it models the originals, I just know that for what they are, the delays sound great. Tap tempo works perfectly and is completely intuitive. I beat the crap out of mine and the only problem I've ever had is that one of the washers on the tap tempo switch came loose and the switch was kind of rattling around inside. One quick call to Line6 support and I was able to fix it myself in 5 minutes.

who really needs more than one friend? ... who really needs 6 strings ...

I got my dd-20 a couple of weeks ago, and love the fact that I can "loop" 23 sec. of rhytimical parts and solo over it ... just throw in a I-IV-V blues progression and your good to go .... :D its the next best thing to playing w/ others if you are alone ... admitedly i am not that great of a player, but I feel this feature has helped my playing a lot ... (I could not solo before the pedal, - i still cant now but i am much closer now :D :D :D :D )

... a very handy feature ... let alone the fact that the "modulate" feature converts the pedal into a prime stereo chorus ... its a rock solid pedal (both construction and software-wise) ...

... or just leave the feedback on eternal (or very long) and start creating weired landscapes - early pink floyd

... also, the reverse feature is quite usefull, as you can mask out the original signal completely and the "pan" function is also VERY cool when you go into 2 amps ... quite some turning heads :eek:

for me it was worth the 80something dollars of premium vs. other pedal
