I use a Digi002 setup with Pro-Tools to mix and Master. When I master a song I use EQ and a Limiter to try and get a punchier and louder sound. But when I play it against other profesional songs it sounds weaker. When I play it on my CD player there is a frequency analyzer and it basically shows me that there are no high frequencies doing anything and the whole song is in the low end. I even try Boosting the top half of the frequency spectrum of the song. How can I make sure I'm outputing a fuller frequency range from pro tools.

If you go too far into the limiter, you will start shaving off high end (or low end if your mix is too bright) Maybe your mixes need to be brighter. If your monitors are lying to you about how much low end you have, that could be your problem.

BTW What does a good sounding CD look like?
