Free Virtual Synthesizer and Sequencer?

I'm wondering is there are any programs out there that would act as an analog seuqncer (obviously replicating it), and also if there are any sequencers. Hopefully free. I'm looking to sequence a synth like one would with a modular synthesizer. Obviously I can't do this, because I'm on a budget so I was think virtual would be the way to go. I'm hoping for something that loops a sequence and I can draw that sequence out on a piano roll/midi type of thing. Hopefully there is something like this out there. Thanks!

Sounds like you want to do a standard MIDI recording with a VSTi synth? It's not clear. A sequencer is usually an outboard piece of gear. Lots of free VSTis here - you just use them as a plugin in a MIDI track in your DAW. then program/record the MIDI, and voila!
