(wrong forum, probably...)

I'm looking for some "air traffic controller" chat.

preferrably free

I'll make some up for you. What do you want to hear exactly? Silly/real, pressured/normal, technical, catostrophic or just a walk in da park?

Cool!

What are you making them from?

I want to use them as some background noise in a song about an Aerospace Engineer, so just normal run of the mill air traffic will do. I guess test flight chatter would be interesting, but not easy to come by.

I've been a pilot for 25 years so I speak the lingo. I've recorded scripted pilot/controller banter as background noise for use with Flightsim programs. Post the lyrics or some more details of the song and I'll throw something together and post it as a wav file.

Grip,
That's especially cool.

We're working on a song over at Collaboration Central.

The "Front Door" at Collaboration Central

(or if you prefer to see how we got to where we are at this point...)

(or if you'd rather not bother with any of that, and just grab the latest mix)

AeroSpaceman

It is still very much in progress. I may remove some of those other noises to bring yours up a little in the mix.

-ps let me know if you need me to hook you up with some space for uploading

You're really twisted! :D

Just kiddin'. Sounds like fun. I'll put some stuff together tomorrow night and friday. I'm out of town wed & thur, but if you can wait til saturday I can upload something. I don't have a site yet to upload to, so yeah, let me know where.

Q, got your email. Wrote out a 3min script and am working on it tonight and tomorrow. I don't have any vocal FX, so the trick at this point is getting it to sound like radio tranmissions. I'm going to try micing my house phone while speaking through my cellular phone.

Let you know what I come up with.

don't fret too much, I've got a few plugins, with the right eq, should come out ok.

ps - tia

Ok, you just want it straight and clean, sm58 through a tubeMP?

BTW- the cell/phone didn't work. Too much lag time makes it hard to follow.

How can I save it and upload so that you can work with two tracks independantly? I guess I can save it as two seperate files. Can you sinc properly if that's what I do?

Straight and clean will work for me, I'll have to get you to do some authenticity checks for me, though.

You can make it one stereo file, panning one track left and the other right, but that doesn't seem to save you any on the filesize. Two mono trax is preferred, that way I don't have to split the stereo track on my end.

As far as syncing goes, what I try to do is produce a file that is the exact same length as the reference track. I can always trim and or slide things around if it doesn't sync, tho.

Queue, I'm not hip to the FTP reference. How do I use it? All I saw were numbers. 209.35.77.118

BTW- you're not using Ntrack are you?

I wound up with 8 tracks of sound and mixed it down to two mono tracks. Ntrack saves files as Mp3. Is this a problem?

Grip, not using n-track here, I'm using Vegas. I tend to recommend n-track pretty frequently. But I already learned Vegas, so I'm sticking with it for now...

FTP, uh oh...

In my geekyness I tend to assume everyone has used FTP. You'll need some software. (Commonly referred to as an FTP client.)

Check out this thread:
FTP Clients thread at ArtistCollaboration.com

There's a couple of links to Free FTP clients (you're a student, right ;)) And a tutorial or two...

Those numbers I gave you are the IP address you would enter to set up the FTP client software. (Along with the user/pass.) If it asks what type host, just set it to automatic.

Hope that helps,

Wow, I gotta tell you....
I downloaded autoFTP but I don't have the first clue what I'm looking at or how to use it.

There's got to be an easier way of doing this.
The only thing I knew for sure in preferences is that I'm not on a dial up service.

Got an idea:
If you want, why don't you have a look at autoFTP and tell me what I need to do to make this work. Beyond coming here, sending pics and Word files back and forth between work, I don't know squat about internet protocols or any of that other geek stuff! :D

Help!

Guess I shoulda pointed you to one that I use. DOH! :(

I'm d/l ing AutoFTP now, and will give you instructions when I get it going.

(Prolly won't be until after dinner ~8pm EST)

That's cool, windy and rainy here so I'll be around tonight.

I got Auto FTP d/l'd but it kinda sucked

We're gonna figger this out yet...

What OS are you using?

What is your "not dialup" connection?

How big are the files?

Win98, DSL and I don't know.

I'll check file sizes and get back to you. Different computer down stairs.

I'm open to any FTP (whatever that is) you direct me to use, but you'll have to tell me how to fill in the blanks. :D
