Free Mastering Suite?

Mastering is a PROCESS, not a specific tool....

Any good audio editor (even your sequencer) with good EQ, compression, etc. plugins will do the job.

Reading through a few books will do you wonders....

Even the really expensive "mastering suites" (if there is such a thing...) are only as good as the ears of the guy tweaking it.

Good ears + good room + native plugs in shareware DAW = Good sound.

Mediocre ears + mediocre room + greatest "mastering suite" in the universe = Mediocre sound.

In my opinion I stay clear of mastering suites. they can really mess up your final sound. The best mastering is done with a near perfect mix. Achieve that result and all you have to add is a limiter to the master bus.

If you find the need to add plugs to your master bus just use individual effects.
For compression I like to use an OPTO setting if available with a ratio of 2.1 or less, slow to medium attack and a fast release time.
EQ, as the track requires.
Drive or saturation for warmness if desired,
Peak Limiter-set this conservatively so just the loudest peaks are reduced. This should give you a 2-3 db boost with virtually no sonic compromise.
