free intelmac VST host?

Medical bills are currently preventing me from buying a VST host, so I need one that is freeware or shareware. I don't want to download one illegally. I do want one that will work on my MacBook.

Also, if I wanted to patch a guitar or vox through my computer and use software effects, a VST host would work for this, yes?

fyi,
all vst plugins also have to be Intel Mac compatible, not just the host
