Hi there
I'm using Cool Edit 1.0 (yeah, I know it's archaic...)
to edit some djs sets, adding some vocal .wav files
using only two channels (one for the set another for the "addings")
When I get to edit the last part of the set (around 75' long)
a "free some hard drive space" advice keeps popping up...
I've checked on my two disks and I still have plenty of space (more than 3 gb each) and my RAM is 128 MB (which I guess is enough)
The Help @ Cool Edit says: "try increasing the Peaks Cache in /Options/Settings/System to 1024 or even 1536 or 2048 to use less RAM. "
I've done this and it still doesn't work...
It also advices to: " try reducing the Wave Cache size /Options/Settings/System and/or increasing the virtual memory settings for your system."
and it still won't work.
What can I do?
Should I try using Cool Edit 2.0?
I'm desperate, please if possible, answer this to uter@perlamarina.com
I need to finish some works and I'm running short of time...

Okay, are you saying it's 75 minutes long? If so, it might not be a RAM problem, but a Hard Drive space problem. 6 GB would get eaten up pretty quickly when you consider that everytime you make an edit to the file, it has to make a copy of it.

As a way around it, I would think you could deselect the "enable undo" button, but every edit you make will be permanent.

Lemme' know if I misread.

I guess it can't be a matter of Hard Disk space because even if I keep saving and saving I check and it says i've got like 4 gb free still on each disk...

dunno mate!

how big are your hd's? i mean...the original size...it definitely seems like a hard drive space problem... I don't like to screw around with anything less than about 20 gb free... I guess thats my ocd speaking though.

Flush the file everytime you make an edit you're positive is going to stay...

Otherwise, I'd say it's time to upgrade your HD.
