I checked GS a while back and noticed that someone started a thread giving away a piece of gear (a preamp that's way above my pay grade) in the hopes it would trigger more of the same - I have an account there, but don't post much, and so I though it would be cool to rip off the idea (or maybe the poster was offering the idea for free, too?
) here. Since I was just lucky enough to pick up a couple of cheap DMP2s, I figure I don't need my DMP3, so I will give it away. I'll pay shipping, so that it's totally free.
On the GS thread, they threw around different methods of deciding who would get the free piece of gear, leaving the specifics up to the donor. I know I'm not qualified to decide who would get it, so here's what I'm thinking:
If you are interested in getting the DMP3, and you have an account here that pre-dates this post, then reply here, announcing that you're interested. I'll leave this thread open for some time (edit: a week or the first 12 candidates, which ever comes first) and then close it and start another thread with a poll where the candidates can post why they want it, and users can vote for who should get it -- only users whose accounts are older than this thread can vote (and I guess I'll have to manually re-calc to disregard any unqualified votes). I might have to make it a public poll so I can see who voted for whom - not sure. I, for one, will be looking for someone who will use the DMP3 (and not turn around and sell it, at least not for a while), and who will in turn give something else away (not necessarily right away, but, you know).
Anyway does this make sense? If not, please reply.
BTW, the Maudio DMP3 is a celebrated low end 2 channel preamp that most people here think is a good choice for a small project studio. It's a standalone preamp, which takes in a microphone (or electric guitar) signal and outputs a line level analog signal. I got mine used, but it's in working condition and pretty good shape cosmetically. I'm certain that there's no active warranty from the retailer or manufacturer, and you'll get none from me (including the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, which arguably don't apply anyway, since it's *@!@# free
). I have the original box, and the outside of the box is in fairly good condition, but the inside of the box (the cardboard part) spent some time in my trunk in the Houston humidity -- the actual preamp did not. I don't believe I have the original wall wart power doohicky, but I'll supply one that works.
If you want to be in the poll to decide who I should send it to (and your account here is older than this post), post here (don't have to say why - just ID yourself - the rest is later) while the thread's still open.
