Four Track Cassette : Complete Breakdown of Companies and Models

Greetings good peoples, I just wanted to float the idea of a comprehensive thread on all the companies that manufactured 4 track cassette and the models they produced. We could perhaps have specs and a short synopsis on the success or otherwise of each model. The idea of this thread is to have a definitive resource so one can quickly reference a particular model and ascertain its suitability. Maybe we can include links to spare parts, manuals etc. It would save wading thru tonnes of different threads looking for references etc. What do you think?

prodigy pro has "meta threads" which are basically a thread with links to other threads, kinda like an index. E.g there is a microphone mod meta, and you go to that thread and it has links e.g. Royer mods, dorsey, oktava etc etc.

Great idea. I have kind of done that with info on the Tascam 388. I couldn't post it here on homerecording effectively though as you are unable to edit your posts after a few days. It would be a disjointed mess without that ability. The 388 thread I have been editing for over four years, and at this point have pages dedicated to particular aspects of the 388: Here's the link..

Didn't know you couldn't edit after "a few" days. I think that is how the mETA's are done, basically updated with links. There has to be a way to fix that?

You must be the one that's a member of my Four Track Brigade site, huh? :) I've been meaning to do exactly that on my site. In fact, I have already gathered up a decent amount of data, but I haven't done anything with it yet. These last two months have been filled with drama for me, so I haven't been able to update that site much at all.
 
A complete breakdown would be awesome. I wonder about the first four track from '79. Did it use the 4558 IC chip? must have sounded great
 
Greetings Beagle yes it is I,Fergmeister! I keep checking for updates on your site but that explains the lack there of. Hope everything is back on track for you. As far as this thread is concerned lets start with all the manufacturers.
