Found some old tapes I recorded back in the early 60's

Yup, ya got it in one try.

Also found lots of Flatt & Scruggs, Ramblin' Jack, Brownie & Sonny, Jesse Fuller, Chambers Brothers, and a whole bunch more.
 
Wow, real vintage. How did those tapes survive so long?

It was an amazing time for me, being exposed to so many different styles of music and getting to sit down with all these legends, talking to them, having them show me licks, and just getting to really know them.

Tres cool. You should offer copies to the Library of Congress as this is terrific history & amazingly good sound quality.
Then again, I have some pretty ancient cassettes from the very early 70's that still sound pretty good so it's no shock that you'd have recorded such stuff well & stored it even better.
I look forward to more (hint hint)!
 
Harvey: thanks for sharing these songs. they sound wonderful! the lightning song brought many memories back. I use to play with him. Do you have an lp worth of stuff from that session? It would be great to get it released. Walter

I have two complete Lightnin' Hopkins shows, so yes, I have enough to do a full length CD.

I have about one hour each of Lightnin' and Ramblin' Jack Elliot, and about 2 or more hours of Flatt & Scruggs. And I'm still looking for my Brownie & Sonny tapes, the Country Boys (who later changed their name to the Kentucky Colonels), and Jesse Fuller (who wrote "San Francisco Bay Blues"), and the Chambers Brothers.
 
i'm a lightnin fan, never heard much ramblin jack. awesome stuff.
 
Awesome. These were extremely cool to be able to hear. I particularly enjoyed the Jack Elliot number.

I'm not all that familiar with these folks although I know of Jesse Fuller since the Dead covered a few of his tunes. Would love to hear something by him.

How do they hold up based on how you remember them sounding? Certainly lacking in high end, which is totally cool, but just wondering if that happened over time or if that was more or less how it was captured in the first place.
