I have a fostex mr8 and came up on a tascam 788, i want to link them together for the ability for recording 6 tracks simultaniously, can anyone help me out on... how exactly? thanks.

Use the Fostex to prop the Tascam up at an angle.

The Tascam 788 can already record 6 tracks simultaneously.;)

fostex?

or use the tascam to prop up the fostex, the tascam can not record in 16 bit....

actually baecause of the bit rate difference i dont think it would ever work, the operating systems arent compatable either,

get a mixer, and record all your tracks at once

the tascam has 4 simultanious recording tracks, unless i missed something...and i think its in 24 and 16 bit, but that makes sense, ya i would normally get a mixer to record on to my fostex, i was thinking...if i recorded bass on the fostex, and drums on the tascam, same time, and somehow put the bass onto the tascam, would that be possible? or would it just be easier or possible to put it together on a program, they should match up right?

Okay, take a joke already!

Look guys, I'm not going to war with you on this, but since there's some confusion on the subject, it prompted me to go to the Tascam 788 manual.

Here's the scoop:
The Tascam 788 will record in either 16 or 24 bit format, @44.1kHz, up to 8 tracks at a time. That's straight out of the manual, so debate it if you want, but it's verbatim off the 788 spec sheet.

Hey, for the most part, I was just joking, but if you have both the 788 and the MR8, then you're really loaded on gear & ready to go!

Plus, boys & girls, the 788 will sync to external Midi Time Code, so if you really do your homework, there probably is a way to link the MR8 and 788 for simultaneous linked recording.

I have not studied the MR8 manual at length, but I have it handy for quick reference. I don't have the MR8 or 788, but I have the Fostex FD-4 and FD-8, which I consider pretty good machines, plus a whole mindboggling array of other Tascam gear.

Cheers!;)

thanks ...?

Ya ok i know i can turn on all the tracks and record on all 8 tracks, i figured that, but to have more then 4 inputs!!!, as in adding the fostex, to have 6 inputs....the key subject is more inputs, maybe i wasnt quite clear, but if i would of know i was going getting an answer from such a condescending fuck, maybe i would of been more clear, and probably wouldn't have even posted. thanks though, i suppose it was all in help. and i dont have the manuel yet...thanks though really, it still did help, just learn to not act like your better?

The 788 has 6 analog inputs,...

which is the 4 "main" inputs A-D, plus two "Aux" inputs, on 1/4" unbalanced jacks, running -10dbU signal level. This would require, in most cases, a mixer as front-end to feed signal to the 788's Aux inputs.

By my reading of the MR8 manual, the MR8's Stereo-Out-L/R jacks output the L/R-buss signals, and so the MR8 may be used as a "front-end" mixer to the 788's Aux Inputs, in the scenario you illustrate. I think this is the answer you were looking for.

Dude, you were not clear, at all, but at what point did I become a condescending fuck?

You obviously don't have a clue about home recording, or recording gear, at all, or of the obvious fact that you shouldn't come shooting from the hip out of the Newbie column, calling people names! You won't last long on this board, if you do.

You called me unkind names, and I still helped you, but I doubt you're bright enough to put those two machines together for any use, despite the help of well intentioned members.

You picked the wrong guy on this board to piss off!

Any more questions, then try to be clear, you dumb assed motherfucker!

Oh, it figures, ramblamic's a snot nosed little 18 year old with an attitude!

Dude, I have reels of tape that are older than you!

You're lucky if I don't ride your ass from now until bbs eternity.

bit rate

i stand corrected on the bit rate, sorry for the bum info, which ever machine you use, i would use a mixer to help out your situation.....

lets all be friends guys, none of us are pro engineers here, there is so much knowledge to be gained from each and every one of your experiences

i appreciate this board and all of its members

Hey ramblamic ...... I went back and carefully read all of what reel said and there was not a single thing he said that could possibly be interpreted as condescending or insulting ...... so in this case you're the condescending fuck.

Dave's right ....... if you're gonna be so quick to take offense at anything anyone says if it's not worded just perfectly, then you may as well not come around here. It doesn't take much to get people to quit helping and go into attack mode.

For what it's worth, the MR-8 provides MIDI sync out (only), so anything that can slave can be driven by the MR-8.

Gee, sorry if my sarcasm wasn't appreciated!

Sorry for what I said that offended you. Sorry I snapped.

Anyway, the full version of the MR8 manual is available for download from the Fostex website, and likewise, the full version of the 788 manual is downloadable from the Tascam website.

mrx

and the wisdom shines through, thanks for the correct insight....

i have no midi experience, but as the true nature of this board shows, someone with more knowledge can always help out
