One of my best friends had a fostex mini studio thing and it sucked BALLS. It had little memory, no mixer except for panning and volume and it just SUCKS!

thank you for your oh-so-very-helpful contribution to this forum. I just HAVE to go out and buy something that says lexicon on it now...right after I burn everything that's fostex...

If your talking about the VF-16...You don't know what your talking about.
Get to know the machine...It can do a lot for the money.

Learn how to use your gear, I'm sure it can do a lot more than you think it can.

What do you expect for $200.
It is a basic multitracker.

You can upgrade the memory in it.
I don't think you will find anything better in that price range.

BTW what lexicon multitracker are you using?

You're hurting my feelings.

But seriously, the limitations of the MR8 are very well known around here, having been discussed in detail a seemingly infinite number of times....

While you're at it, you forgot to bag on the effects, the crappy buttons, the small display, the fact that it only just barely can be inserted in your rectum...

But just do not forget that it is RED!!! (unless he had the black one :( )

Well 'MyHat', thank you for that observation. It made me think: hell I have bought hard disk recorders, and PC based recording stuff, so I could really learn what it's all about. Now I discover I could simply have asked my friend.
But, hang on, my friend who does a bit of recording knows shit about recording. Hey, maybe we know the same guy!

What multitrackers do Lexicon produce? I'd like to try them myself, or a least hear reasoned, evidence-based views of people who really know about recording, like most of the guys here.

Happy Tracking

lol i think its funny because ive been using the red MR-8 since it's come out, and i love it and evreybody seems to love my recordings...maybe its because i actually know what im doing, and im not some lil fuck who if it's not perfect in 5 minutes after recording it says its a piece of shit. learn to take time on recording and mixing and getting to know the damn machine instead of crying like a little bitch.

But you need a $600 computer to use it with.

You can use that little red thing without a computer.

well i know about computers too. I just built my pc with 450 dollars and its pretty fast. but yea your right, you do need a pc but your not getting a pc just for this, am i correct?

And if im correct, you still need the pc to import the sound files anyways...

For the record, I'm totally for PC/MAC based music production. I don't care at all for the all-in-one boxes as I have had lackluster experiences with the two I had. Mixing and editing to me is much easier on a computer based system...as well as working with MIDI.

Anyway, off topic, apologies.

Welcome to the never ending world of discontinued Lexicons. Lets see if that thing still works and exists in six months. Nothing else by lexicon does, at least not in the DAW world.

Man that's useful shit there!
:D:D:D
It's the bottom of the line and records to a flash card ....... hell ..... even then you could have put a bigger flash card in. I have the MR8HD and it has a hard drive and rocks for the $400 and I have a bigger machine that's pretty nice too.
You gonna condemn an entire maunufacturer because their bottom of the line Digital isn't great? That's dumb ....... show me any other all in one unit for that price that is any better.

The guy wouldn't be needing to spend time knocking Fostex if he was happy making music with anything else.

While I don't use an MR8, I've heard stuff done on one that sounds great. But it does require a good musician/producer...

i have an mr8 and i like it Just fine. Yeah it has limitations, but i really just use it to record the raw tracks and then i take the flashcard out and insert it directly in my pc to be able to transfer each wav track seperately for mixing/editing on pc (even though the manual says you can't) that fool is an idiot
