Fostex stero out to soundcard?

I don't have the SB Live!, but an older SB (Audio PCI 64V). I still have had no compatability problems. Right now, I am now using the Dio as my Windows sound card and it's working great. Game soundtracks ROCK through the monitors versus the 'puter speakers I have. I really don't have anything else using the SB right now...though it's MIDI capabilities are still there if I ever need them.

You select the sound source from the program you're using at the time (eg. Cool Edit, Sound Forge), or, to make it the Windows default, from the "Multimedia" settings in your Control Panel.

To monitor, I run from the phono outs of the Dio to my amplifier (which in turn pushes my passive monitors).

I hope you'll be pleased as I am, which is very pleased indeed!

Oh, AFAIK, you are correct about the conversions. You'll just have the first initial conversion in the Fostex while tracking.

Keiphus,

Well, I got the 2448. After one try with two IRQ conflicts, I took the advice of the manual and simply changed the PCI slot of the 2448 card, and voila!, no problems...well, sort of. I hooked up my optical cable, and could monitor the sound through my speakers. I opened up Cool Edit Pro, set the playback and record devices to Dio 2448. So far, so good.

I read the FD-4 manual for how to do a digital track transfer. Apparently you have to send a left and right channel with a differing track associated with each channel. In other words, let's say I recorded a guitar part on track 4, and have nothing else recorded. When I go to set the transfer, I cannot set L4 R4. Very annoying. Does the VF-08 work this way? So, is the idea to somehow copy the track to, say track 3, then send: L4 R3? I actually just want to send it in mono, not stereo, but here's where there is some sort of problem with CEP and Fostex. If I set the record setting in CEP to mono, I get an error "MMSYS032" for the input device (the FD-4). I assume this error is occuring because it is trying to send stereo tracks, and you can't put them into a mono track in CEP all in one step. If I set CEP to stereo, then I do get a transfer, but one channel is louder than the other. I'm still experimenting, but I was wondering what method you use. Thanks.

To send just one track I set the digital output tracks to the stereo bus ( L ] R ] ), then select only the track you want on the mixer and pan it either hard left or hard right. You should be hearing just that track on monitoring.

Oh, BTW, I have the FD-8...same as your FD-4 with a few tweaks and a bigger mixer.

Good luck!
