FOSTEX repair?

hey, I've got a little fostex vf80 that's got what think is a burned out LCD, but is in working order otherwise. Quite a bummer.

Anyway, anyone have any luck repairing units like this? I'm tempted to see if it's a loose solder/connect or similar issue, or see if I can patch in another screen or something.

Any advice appreciated

Completely blank screen or just unlit?

seems to be completely unlit, I have tried toggling the knobs, it lights up but no black stuff showing....
