Does anyone know if Fostex made a E-22 1/4 tape format recorder? If so what was different than the E-2 model?

///

The E-22 and E-2 are the same tape drive, with the E22 being 1/2" and E2 being 1/4" tape version.

I don't believe that would be news to you? Not sure if I read the question correctly?

They share the same operation/service manual, and tho' I've not read it cover to cover, on first glance I've not determined any difference except tape width.

Strange,...

It says E-22 & it appears to be 1/4" format. It's a little hard to tell from the pics, but,... yeah.

I questioned the seller about the format. He confirmed, it is indeed 1/4. He also added it had an (XL) in the serial number. And that it had been "factory refurbished".

Don't know the significance of the XL. But the factory is more than capable of "funny business" ;)

BTW the factory must have ran out of reel clamps!:laughings:

Yeah,...

I saw that in the pix, but it's actually "XS". My Fostex E-2 has the serial suffix "MR", but I don't know if there's any significance to either, other than serialization itself.

The manual states, "Although the E-2 is for 1/4" tape at 15 ips and 7-1/2 ips and E-22 is for 1/2" tape at 30 ips and 15 ips, all other features are the same."
http://www.fostexinternational.com/docs/tech_support/pdfs/e2-e22_owners_manual.pdf

So, this E-22 was modified for 1/4" tape and 15 & 7-1/2 ips, (a shame I think), but the term "factory refurbished" itself is dubious, as Fostex closed down it's America's division several years ago. Not out of the realm of possibility, tho.

Agree!
