Fostex M80 question

i just picked up a M80 that seemingly needs a new capstan motor (with the belts off it stops with the touch of a finger) - anybody know anyone with some backstock of parts? I cannot find anything on the internets, not even belts - am i f'd?

Uhm... Yes. Probably. Maybe the best would be to get another M-80 for parts. Or alternatively, if e.g. the heads on your 80 aren't really that good, to drop the whole thing for a better machine.

Try openreel.net. They list capstan belts for the R8. I think you may be able to locate manuals on line to see for part number. You might try disassembling the motor, cleaning and reassembling if that is practical.
